Exactly. I don't know why the Ps3 guys were overrating what God of War 3 would do for the PS3 sales... I already knew that the franchise was no gigantic franchise to begin with. Those that did think it would make a huge push don't seem to see the trends of games that actually push systems for long periods of time.

Probably because the Elite was $399 in early 2009, while now it's $299 and comes with Forza 3 and Halo 3: ODST.

They also had a fun promotion last week where you got a $50 gift card at GameStop if you bought an Elite, which is now happening this week over at Best Buy.

If all the PS3 can do is 5k over 360 in America with no supply issues, I'd be worried.

the reason for the rise all around is simple

lack of fear for recession.

I think Microsoft is actually being really smart, discounting the arcade in some way (or just letting it be discounted?) without officially dropping the price, or bundling really good games with the elite, getting some mileage out of that before they make the big price drop announcement and everyone who didn't know they could have gotten the system for 150$ in March suddenly realizes it's the perfect time to buy a 360. Probably gets way more impulse buyers on board to spread things out that way. It just seems like good business.


Sony on the other hand got me to sign up for a credit card just so I could get 150$ off a PS3. Had to think about that for a while... but in retrospect it was worth it :)

OMG, do you know what you have done?  Now some of the 360 Elite will come in here smelling talks of a 360 pricecut around the launch of the Slim, only to argue it was "replacing a Sku" so it doesn't count.  But then they will say when 360 gets a pricecut this year it will crush the PS3.  But wouldn't that just be "replacing" the $250 Pro Sku?  So, 360 can never have a pricecut the rest of this gen confirmed?  Me so confused.
