Interesting write up Amp but i must expand upon your post. If you would all just look a little closer at the situation at hand i think you'll find that the reason this game has bombed is right in front of our faces.
Realistic graphics.
Let us take a gander at the hard facts. We have a game that utilizes the Motion Plus attachment for a more engrossing experience and most importantly a realistic sword fighting experience, however the game itself isn't realistic graphics-wise. What. The. Hell. The Cel Shaded direction of Red Steel 2 has quite obviously confused the audience and therefore they have decided to stay away.
Backing this up further would be previous titles on the console. Call of Duty: World at Wii and Modern Wiifare as well as Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition and Super Mario Galaxy all have used motion controls to enhance the experience as well as realistic graphics to make us feel as though we are truly within the game itself.
Just look at all the bombs that haven't used realistic graphics with motion controls and have suffered for it. Zack and Wiki is a prime example, which failed in all regions. The Conduit which you brought up before Amp is another good example, the game clearly was not as realistic as World at Wii or Modern Wiifare and by just comparing the sales you'll know which games the public favored. No More Heroes? Madworld? Both had a quirky art style which turned off the mainstream and the result was that both games made it to the bargain bins within months and neither have made 500K.
Yes if we examine these clear facts developers will surely realize that realism is the way to go on the Wii. It has been proven that with realistic graphics the game will sell incredibly well and turn big profits. Except if they are Rail Shooters, those don't count and are doomed from the start. House of the Dead: Overkill and Dead Space Extraction show they cannot sell.
