Forums - Nintendo - Why Red Steel 2 bombed

Interesting write up Amp but i must expand upon your post. If you would all just look a little closer at the situation at hand i think you'll find that the reason this game has bombed is right in front of our faces.

Realistic graphics.

Let us take a gander at the hard facts. We have a game that utilizes the Motion Plus attachment for a more engrossing experience and most importantly a realistic sword fighting experience, however the game itself isn't realistic graphics-wise. What. The. Hell. The Cel Shaded direction of Red Steel 2 has quite obviously confused the audience and therefore they have decided to stay away.
Backing this up further would be previous titles on the console. Call of Duty: World at Wii and Modern Wiifare as well as Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition and Super Mario Galaxy all have used motion controls to enhance the experience as well as realistic graphics to make us feel as though we are truly within the game itself.

Just look at all the bombs that haven't used realistic graphics with motion controls and have suffered for it. Zack and Wiki is a prime example, which failed in all regions. The Conduit which you brought up before Amp is another good example, the game clearly was not as realistic as World at Wii or Modern Wiifare and by just comparing the sales you'll know which games the public favored. No More Heroes? Madworld? Both had a quirky art style which turned off the mainstream and the result was that both games made it to the bargain bins within months and neither have made 500K.

Yes if we examine these clear facts developers will surely realize that realism is the way to go on the Wii. It has been proven that with realistic graphics the game will sell incredibly well and turn big profits. Except if they are Rail Shooters, those don't count and are doomed from the start. House of the Dead: Overkill and Dead Space Extraction show they cannot sell.

How technical is your game?

what is mario kart bundled with? a plastic wheel?

so is formula 2009 and yet it isnt getting high sales.

Bundle as in sold with the console and forumla 2009 is an atrocious racing game.

If Cel-shaded games can sell 1 million+ on the Xbox 360 (ie. Crackdown and Borderlands), I don't see why that should hurt Red Steel 2 on the Wii.

I'm shocked Red Steel 2 didn't do better. The game was heavily advertised on Spike TV during UFC like a week ago. I was shocked as hell seeing a Wii game filling up commercial breaks for a UFC event. They also had Splinter Cell Conviction commercials. Ubisoft bought a lot of advertising space that night.

The game is still being advertised, I saw the commercial several times already this week (And I don't watch TV much) Read and heard that it's miles better than the first game....so it's actually kind of sad this is the case, it's been in development for a good while too now yes?

The whole topic of wasting money on those celebrities is pointless. In the conduite no one even knows who those "celebrities" are, and the only people know that their attatched to the game are the same people who have been following the title from the begining( people who are already gona buy da game)

All they needed to do is advertise the game in front of childrens television like ben 10 and nick tv and sell to an easy audience. Most people probably don't know Red Steel 2 even exists, so unless they get lady gaga to voice the main character, no celens gonna make a difference

This would get hardcore gamers to buy Red Steel 2 by the truck load.

seriously? voice acting is the last thing i care about when deciding to get a game. even less is whether or not the voice actor is a celebrity.

The Conduit a well known bomb? I've never seen a single Wii fan in here admit that before so that's not exactly true.

They never admitted to any game bombing, no matter what the sales.....because apparently if a game sells 200 copies on the Wii, it's a success because the Wii is *so* cheap to develop for

However blunt that sounds, I realize you have a point.
