It will be a dual screen system with 3D effect graphics.
3DS is the perfect name. Short, simple, recognizable, and it highlights the key new feature of the next-generation of Nintendo handhelds ... the 3D effect.

You know what? In order to keep it cheap I think this is exactly what they are going to do!
iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Maybe they should call it the "Nintendo 3DDS"!

yeah i know, but then why call it 3ds..... hmm unless it's 3dScreen. I'd thught they were just doing a mishmash of 3d and ds. Well, I thought I remember hearing that it was going to have 2 screens (the ds2, not the 3ds), so, if the ds2 is infact the 3ds, then it is a mishmash. |
They called it 3DS for 3Dimensional Screen, not 3 Dual Screen like the actual DS. They'll probably change it before E3.
Gameboy - NES power
Gameboy Advance - SNES power
Nintendo DS - N64 power
Nintendo 3DS - Gamecube/Wii power
that along with rumble and an analog stick? (3D one?) and I believe the implementation of two touch screens, or one large one, will bring about this new handeld, and ofcourse visuals comparable to last generation console graphics, between PS2/XBOX or slightly more powerful than PSP, to implement the 3d effect visuals with graphics comparable to those of a PSP.
Soriku said: 3 Dimensional Screen isn't the same as Dual Screen. Although I think slipping DS in there anyway even if it doesn't stand for dual screen anymore is smart :P |
DS3DS? 3DSDS? DS²3? 3(DS)²?

The DS never stood for "Dual Screen" in the first place.
It was called DS as an acronym for "Developer's System".
3DS is a fine name. It won't be changed. It gets the point across pretty easily, you guys are way overthinking this.

no, it's 3d dual screen.
It's a mashup.
If it has two screens, it's a dual screen.
In English, we sometimes eliminate letters in acronyms that are reproduced because they sound better.
