point is nintendo does not own motion control rights. nintendo has no case against sony. there is no similarity besides the concept that both devices share which isnt own by nintendo and thats motion sensing and if thats your case you must of forgotten about past motion sensing devices and the playstation eye. conversation ending me 5 wins nintendo fans 0 LOL. ah im glad i stop supporting nintendo before this generation i wouldnt want to deal with the "new fans" of these generation like the ones being displayed here

i couldnt stay here all morning , even tho your replies are amusing.Did you find the document where nintendo references Goschi`s patent?I hope so. you couldnt prove a single thing of your statements i guess.

i did but you so call "left". well im leaving cause even though i figured it out long ago you guys are nothing but trolls. so ill stop feeding you and walk away like everyone else did

How is this bad? This is great actually, it will mean Nintendo will have to innovate soon enough and we will get something unique very soon. Also, we might get more multiplat games now, and PS3 users might get some of the nasty shovelware we have been getting, so yeah. It only bothers those who want their games to be exclusive, both the PS3 and the Wii will get more games now.

EDIT: I agree with Viper, the method is what you can patent, but not the idea. Think about it.

wii came out 2005/2006 i dont understand why people will think sony ripped off the nintendo wii-mote if it wasnt even out?? the video also claims its 2004. not only that but talk of motion controls have been out befor 2000 (pat goschy) and before him.

ugh people really need to stop this. this is why im neutral i dont affiliate myself with fanboys. who knows pat goschy patent or tech demo inspired sony to make their own motion control devices.. oh yes, playstation eye and sixaxis

because people love to start arguements..

its possible, that yes his demo did influence SONY and NINTENDO, but there were motion sensitive sixaxis like controllers back in the PS1 days, and sony had 3rd party controllers for its console for games like warhawk with motion control.

Wii came out almost in 2007 actually.

Nintendo doesn't own "the motion detection controller" generic patent or design, but only its specific implementations. Works on the tech were already started before Wii development began, and there was even one resembling a katana hilt. Nintendo itself uses a lot of 3rd party tech under license in WiiMote, Nunchuck and Balance Board, some of those tech were developed initially for robotics, avionics, aerospace, automotive and transport engineering and other high tech sectors, then components costs started dropping and Nintendo had not only the timeliness to launch its implementation for entertainment just when the price was right, but also the talent to design the first widely enjoyable implementation. This is a thing competitors can try to copy, but they'll arrive at most second, so, despite Nintendo can't stop them unless they commit blatant plagiarism, it has very little to fear, at least for the rest of this gen.

i dunno i checked the following posts. You couldnt find any document or printed information or anything where as you lied, his work is referenced.Im not lying, like some.Im just looking for the truth. If you were right, i would accept and say Oh nintendo did reference his work. Why arent they paying him.I would be wondering how they got away with referencing his work and not paying him any royalty. But the truth is the obvious one, they didnt reference him, because they had no idea of his work, nor looked into it.You said you would show me proof, you showed nothing. There is nothing.

I'll say this again. You can only patent a method, not an idea.

Wii Remote and Nunchuk, Wand and nunchwand(?) doesn't look veeeeeeeeeeeeeeery similar methods?

Oh yes they do.

the thing that differentiates them is that the Arc doesnt relay the data via BlueTooth, like the Wii controls do. Its also a seperate system of motion detection. So theoretically, while it may look similar, it wont respond similarly.

What I question is how through motion camera detection, a thumbstick would work. Since all the data would be relayed via movement (or thus infringe on Nintendo's bluetooth data method in its system (no I know nintendo doesnt own bluetooth tech)),  the way to move forward and backwards with a motion camera would be to move that full arm that way.

I want to see the final product already and end the conjecture!

Because patents do not work the way you think they do

if you're an expert on the matter, get off the board, contact Nintendo and tell them they clearly have an infringement case and you want to take it to court on their behalf.  you ask the question about the situation, inherently meaning you don't know why it isn't infringement, and then behave as if you actually have the answers to the situation you know nothing about.  if there was a case, Nintendo would make it, and I am willing to be that Nintendo and its teams of lawyers are not only more knowledgeable in this matter than you but smarter overall, so you haven't not only identified some glaring infringement but probably aren't even capable of doing so.

It doesn't look like he has much of a case but they did reference his work.

There are two US patents, both filed in 1999, that cite Goschy as an inventor (6315673, 6545661) - the latter was referenced by Nintendo in a patent filed in April 2003 for a "game device changing sound and an image in accordance with a tilt operation," laying the foundation for the Wii remote. It should be noted that there are a total of 110 U.S. patents and nine foreign patents that are reference by Nintendo. Goschy's patent is also referenced by Apple (7307228) and Nikon (6727885).

Who cares? The wand or arc, will flop imo, PS3 is a Mature System, I can't see Adults playing motion games on PS3
