Two gens on, and as it's 20th anniversary approaches, what are your feelings on Sony's 7th gen console?

Not as strong of a library as the PS1 and the PS2, but still really good.

Third party games helped a lot with this one. But most of them were on Xbox 360 too, so it didn't had a lot of exclusive points.

Great device. Got me more interested in Sony first party titles.

Excellent device when it runs games that were made specifically for its cell CPU. I wish it had 1GB of ram instead of 500 MB. I feel like RAM for 7th gen games was the biggest bottleneck. Device runs very well when you put the more efficent CPU from the later models into the superior cooling of the launch models and then get a new fan for it. It becomes whisper quiet and a few games gain some frames. Holds up a lot better than the 360 and I really like the 360.

With the way this gen is, makes me miss and appreciate PS3 more than ever. Strong library (especially 1st party games) and free online.

Yeah 7th gen was RAM starved, much the same was as the 8th gen was CPU starved.

Still, it is insanely impressive (to me anyway) that they got games like Metal Gear Solid 5, GTA5, Far Cry 4, Battlefield 4, etc running on less than 500MB of available RAM, and with PS3 even more limited by having a split RAM setup with just 256MB for graphics.

Some late PS3/360 games were really impressive indeed.

I remember The Evil Within looking quite good too. Althought I'm quite sure it ran much better on PS4/XOne, but still...

3 Uncharted games, and The Last of Us, what an era for Naughty Dog. My 2nd favorite Sony console after the PS4.

Great games. Awful controller. Awful interface. Laughable launch and laughable marketing in the early days. While most the library is shared with 360 on the third party front and most run better on 360. It has some exclusives like 3D Dot Game Heroes. Folklore. White Knight Chronicles. EX Troopers (console anyway) Another Century Episode, Gundam Unicorn and a few RPGs and such. Still the only console with a physical version of Strider 2014. Only HD console with physical versions of D&D Chronicles of Mystara. Of course most will mention the big name PS3 first party games. Most of those did nothing for me. Tho I loved Lost in Rain. A forgotten game released not long before PS4 launch. so it went to die. I like the PS3 but the horrible installs. Bad UI. Shitty controller held it back for me. Thankfully these days one of my issues is solved. Retro Fighters Defender I can use on PS2 and PS3. So my controller issue is solved.


PS3 was a laughing stock before launch and at launch. Sony eventually turned things around to a very good console. 360 flipped from being the strongest HD system that gen to selling out for Kinect. PS3 finished stronger.

PS3 was esp bottlenecked since it only had half of that for games. 360 had a unified 512MB. PS3 only 256 for games.
