Forums - Nintendo - Switch 2 Price Rise (May in Japan, September WW) - $499/499EUR/59,980 Yen

As expected, the Switch 2 is getting a price rise as revealed by Nintendo in their fiscal results. Though they are giving advance warning, quite far in advance for the west, which is surprising.

The price will rise on May 25th in Japan and September 1st elsewhere.

The Switch 1 and NSO subscriptions are also receiving a price rise, but only in Japan.

Console Old Price New Price
Switch OLED Model ¥37,980 ¥47,980
Switch ¥32,978 ¥43,980
Switch Lite ¥21,978 ¥29,980

Was pretty much expected, unfortunately. Though at least it's just a moderate price hike outside of Japan. In Europe, it's only €30.

Price hike being earlier and bigger in Japan is expected. Switch 2 was surprisingly cheap in Japan even before the tariffs and RAM/NAND issues.

Yeah, it makes the most sense as it's where they'd be losing the most money. Though Japan being relatively so much stronger than everywhere else means it's also a place where a price rise can do them a lot of damage in terms of units.

It's a pretty minor price rise in the West. 6% in Europe, 11% in USA, 20% in Japan. So yeah where they're weakest it's increasing the least and strongest the most lol.

What's most interesting to me is that the Japan-only Switch 2 model is now more expensive than the Japan-only PS5 model.

I love that they were transparent about the price increase

Expected. Ram and now storage is super expensive. Glad I got mine already and glad I built a high end rig, it is going to be a long time before hardware is reasonable.

I still think it is funny how many people think $600 is on the table for the ps6.

It better be on the table or nobody will show up for dinner.

That depends on how much Sony wants to subsidise. Sony will probably keep releasing games on PS5 too, another reason gamers do not need to upgrade.
