Forums - General - Sora Is Shutting Down?

Apparently OpenAI is shutting down Sora very soon, and their partnership with Disney is dead.

Please don't be an April Fools joke.

I thought you meant Sakurais company...

Ooh I hope so!

Thank goodness no. Even when Sakurai retires, I hope someone keeps Sora going.

As for this news, it seems great. People trash Bob Iger for leading Disney while it got too big with acquisitions and "wokeness" and all that, but I feel starting this deal before it fell through was the greatest stain on his CEO years at Disney.

Josh D'Amaro better not bring AI slop to Disney+ and Disney content in general.

Funny enough my mind went "Wait but that game isn't even out yet" as my brain went straight to Saros.

This could be a step forward in the fight against AI.

The combination of this and the DLSS 5 fiasco might well turn out to be the point of no return for AI (or at least generative AI; I doubt AI upscaling or effects are going away anywhere soon) as any sort of artistic tool... or it might be something more akin to the 2000s Dotcom Crash in that it proves a major setback, but only until technology has caught up enough to make it commercially viable.

Sora 2 was already outdated since Seedance 2 blows it out of the water but I was wondering what Sora 3 was gonna be like though I guess that's not happening at this point or at least not in a fully public app. China seems to be taking over the AI video field.

The latter scenario is a horrible future. -_-

But one with a basis in history, for better or worse. After the Dotcom Crash a lot of people were saying how stupid it was for anyone to think that online shopping could ever match the convenience of bricks and mortar retail. It might have taken twenty years of technological advances and a factor (the COVID pandemic) that no-one could ever have predicted at the turn of the century, but it did happen in the end.
