I think the problem PS5 has in Japan is that unlike in western markets where a lot of casual gamers buy PS5 to play sport games, shooters etc, casual gamers don't really buy PS5 in large numbers in Japan, PS5 mostly sell to core gamers there. If you are only able to sell to core gamers, that will dramatically reduce your sales potential, because the target demographic becomes much smaller. Switch 1 can still sell 40K during a holiday week in Japan just because they have such a vast pool of casual gamers and families they are able to attract.

Strong week for the Switch 2 with it once again basically matching the equivalent week for the Switch 1 in 2017 so its first December in Japan has been quite similar to that which is good though time will tell if that'll be the case worldwide or not. The Switch 1 increased but not much and is far below the equivalent week for the 3DS in 2017 so with a very mild December boost its sales after January should be very low unless it continues to hold up surprisingly well in Japan and the PS5 is basically the same as last week with the new cheaper Digital model once again saving its sales from being outright horrendous.

Jesus, the Switch 2 to PS5 ratio this week is almost 12:1, and even Switch 1 to PS5 is about 2:1.

Interestingly, Pokémon is legging it out better on Switch 1, while Momotaro is legging better on Switch 2.

So it's looking like a roughly 51% YoY decline for Switch 1 this year following the release of its successor. Which isn't bad, all things considered. For comparison's sake - The DS dropped a whopping 77% YoY in 2011 when the 3DS came out.

We'll see what 2026 looks like as the decline continues.

Switch 2 continues to dominate as expected.

PS5, quite frankly, is on life support.
