I find this a bit surprising since I thought they'd just continue ignoring the Xbox platform as it fades and absorb as many Xbox users as they can in the coming years but if it's just the live service stuff then that doesn't go against that much. Now if a big single player one like Spider-Man gets ported then that'll really be a surprise since they'd be propping up a former huge competitor soon after they bow out from competing. They'll be getting money from remaining Xbox users soon either way if the next main Xbox system lets other store fronts like Steam on it like the Xbox Rog Ally will so they might just need to wait another couple years for that instead of going through the effort to port games like that to a dying platform.
Considering the nature of the game, this isn't really that surprising that they'd be willing to take a gamble with their most popular live service outing. Although, I don't think this was announced for Gamepass, right ?
Then the answer will be likely muted considering the purchasing habits of the user base.

As I said in the Xbox OT. It comes as a surprise but when you really think about it it's not a massive shift as PS games were going to end up on Xbox hardware very soon anyway as future Xbox hardware will have Steam. So every "xbox" starting with the ROG Xbox Ally will have PlayStation games with or without Sony's input.
Xbox Series sales are already dead, Xbox is leaving the traditional console market. MS are no longer competition against PS hardware and Sony games were going to end up on Xbox devices anyway very soon so might as well start cashing-in early. Especially with a live service title.
The console war is long gone, PS won that battle, Sony/MS are pretty much business partners now.
Excellent news for Series players. I don't think we'll get games like God of War, Gran Turismo, The Last of Us, Uncharted etc on Xbox ever, but this gives new possibilities.
I wonder if Quantic Dream's Sony-published games will ever come to Xbox? They've been on PC since 2019.
Lifetime Sales Predictions
Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)
PS5: 122 million (was 105 million, then 115 million) Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)
Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)
PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)
3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

It only makes sense for a live-service game to spread itself far and wide.
The industry's been trending away from exclusivity for years now, from Xbox games coming to PC then PS/Nintendo, to Sony's games now coming to PC and in some cases Nintendo and now Xbox.
Will be interesting to see where we go from here.
