Slightly higher opening for TTYD than the Origami King (109K), that's nice to see. I really wish they had launched it a little cheaper like Metroid Prime Remastered though, then I would have gotten it myself as well.

Happy to see Paper Mario and Stellar do well. Looks like the Switch hardware is cooling off a bit? Driven by switch 2 rumors?

Will the Switch hit 33 million next week? It's going to be close!

Playing Xenoblade 2 before I buy Xenoblade 3 (otherwise I couldn't wait to play 3).

Can they announce a new Fire Emblem? A remake of Genealogy or Tellius would suffice !

With TTYD's opening physical sales being about the same as Origami King in the UK and now Japan as well it looks like it has a good shot of outselling it since with digital being higher now compared to 2020 it's likely off to a stronger start worldwide. Maybe there's even a chance it surpasses Super Paper Mario and becomes the best selling game in the series. This is very promising and will hopefully push the series to return to its roots for the next original entry. Also next week is exciting since there's a decent chance the Switch reaches 33m and takes the record from the DS at last.

So far TTYD seems to be toe to toe with the Origami King. A nice early success considering this is a remake of an admittedly 20 yo game.
Could be possible to see another Mario RPG reach the 3M mark !

Now if only we had a studio out there to make a Mario & Luigi game ...

No, there are two better reasons:

1. May is typically the weakest month of the whole year in Japan.

2. Japan is cracking down on exports of consoles lately. This has also affected the PS5.

Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

Xbox Series X|S is now just over 10k ahead of last year.

Makes sense.  I mean it is down 50% compared to this time last year.  So month is the correct answer.
