Forums - Movies & TV - Warner Bros, New Line Sign New Deal with Embracer for More "Lord of The Rings/The Hobbit" Films

New ‘Lord of the Rings’ Movies in the Works at Warners, New Line.

Warner Bros. and New Line are going back to Middle-earth, with the studio making a deal that will allow it to develop more Lord of the Rings movies.

The multiyear pact with rights holders Embracer Group AB allows Warners to develop features based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings books and The Hobbit. Embracer Group, the Swedish gaming company, acquired the rights to produce LOTR films, games, merchandise, theme park attractions and live productions when it purchased rights holder Middle-earth Enterprises last year from The Saul Zaentz Company.

Will they be more or less disappointing than the star wars sequels?

Hmmm.

Oh for fucks sake stop

Jesus Christ, don’t whine about this. Pessimistic cynical anti-fans need to keep their stench away from this brand. It’s not for you and not about you.
Keep with Star Wars, screech about droids or something :)

I’m definitely looking forward to seeing more Middle Earth media. I’ve been a massive fan of Tolkien’s universe and have been since I was a kid. In fact, I literally learned English from The Hobbit when I was a kid back in the 80s (where I’d sit with that book and a dictionary for hours). Lord of the Rings taught me even more, and was my favourite book, and if I committed crimes, swearing on the Silmarillion Holy Qur’an or Bible… maybe more even more valuable to me (I was quite the little Tolkien fanatic). I’d read the first 12 volumes of the history of middle earth by the age of 15 (which is a few thousand pages, basically have the primitive legendarium and other versions of the Silmarillion, including poetic renditions, and early drafting from Lord of the Rings), before they combined it into those three giant volumes leading up to the Peter Jackson films.

This new media is for obsessive fans like me :D
…and anyone else who wants to enjoy it.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

We are living in pop culture hell...

Considering we heard about a month ago that Embracer was asking for WB to give them back the LOTR/Hobbit rights so that they could sell the the whole package to Amazon, who already has the 2nd Age rights, this is definitely for the best. I trust WB with the IP alot more than I trust Amazon, who absolutely butchered the 2nd Age with Rings of Power. Peter Jackson has already said that WB has contacted him and let him know they are keeping the rights and plan to make future movies, so there is a good chance of Jackson's involvement in some capacity. Amazon meanwhile turned down Jackson's offer of help, and fired their Tolkien lore expert, before butchering the 2nd Age.

I mean in an age where the most recognizable brand of the pop culture genre are exploited to eons by these corporations with more than varying results of success, I'll say this. I'm not much hopeful we'll actually get something good out of this. Still prolly gonna be better than the purge called the Rings of Power anyway.

Whatever. There will always be the original trilogy that can never be harmed. I mentally blocked the Disney movies from being canon outside of Rogue One and I can do it with these too.

As long as it has nothing to do with Amazon whatsoever!

Still no faith that it will actually be any good. Could be, but book to movie adaptations generally turn to shit when they diverge from the source material, and since they've already made movies of The Hobbit and LOTR, what is there left?
