Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Jeffrey Grubb: Auto HDR is one of next gens coolest features

Pretty great tech, here. And that Banjo game does look very good for an Xbox 360 game. As someone who repeatedly dips into older games from past generations, this looks very good to me. It should also spruce up plenty of games from this gen that didn't utilize HDR.

Bonus points for the shout out to Titanfall 2 at the end, sequel to GOTG Titanfall.

This is also a good showcase of Auto HDR, with a number of games featured.  Seems like great tech!  Makes me even more excited to get the Series X.

I'm really excited for the numerous quality of life features the Series X offers. It breath new life into older games.

It's hardware powered free remastered games. When it came to Xbox one & Xbox one X, Microsoft was losing the generation and not many people got to experience it. But, this time around at the start of the generation it will be front and center. Especially combine with Gamepass meaning that you don't have to purchase any of the game to try it out it's really a system seller. Imagine being a casual gamer making the switch from PS4 on day 1 you get all of these amazing titles included to game pass. That why Xbox series S should be a huge hit for casual gamers.

It's sad that for many these features will be missing since they won't have the TV to support it. My 2016 Vizio 4K TV is also missing some of the key features to take full advantage of what the Series X/S can offer next-gen.

If someone who never owned an Xbox before buys the Xbox Series, they will be in for a treat!

I'm the same with my TV. I got an LG 4k TV last year, but it's certainly missing features to take advantage of everything. Eventually I'll get a TV that can.

What's Guardians of the Galaxy Titanfall?

It's the game where the Guardians from Halo 5 show up and save the entire galaxy of Titanfall from the evil emperor Zurg.

Today I learned Kazooie is a girl.

Auto HDR yuck. That will put many people off HDR as a real improvement to games. It's bad enough TV manufacturers do it. At least you can turn it off? If a game or movie isn't made for HDR, don't add it after the fact. It just looks wrong.

I disagree that it's necessarily a bad feature. But, it certainly should be something that can be turned off. Generally speaking, art, which is what games are, should be experienced in the way the artist intended. I don't have any problem with sprucing the art up, but you should still have the option to play games with the original colors. Is that not the case here?

I assume you can simply disable HDR, either in the console menu or on the tv end.

It should be harmless, just for old games. Unlike the system wide gamma correction 360 and One had to make the visuals pop, causing black crush and needing different tv settings for xbox on one side, and the other consoles on the other.
