Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo's game output is improving but still pathetic compared to Wii/DS era

Is it just me or does anyone else believe that they can push out more titles per year than their current rate?

How come Nintendo can't match their output during the Wii/DS era when their teams were split up between two systems.  They pushed out so many new IPs during that era along with their main IPs that it just doesn't ever feel the same.  Sure some of it was shovelware but decent amount of the IPs were fresh and actually decent games.

How the fuck does it take 8 years to make another mainline Animal Crossing?  Where are all the new IPs like they did with Endless Ocean, Battalian Wars (yea I know it was on GC first but only played 2), Excite Truck/Bots, etc?  Where the fuck is Advance Wars?  F-Zero? (I know F-Zero wasn't on Wii/DS but if they can make Fire Emblem a hit then surely F-Zero deserves another go) Sure they don't need Nintendo published game for every month but it seems like there should be more.  I still haven't even purchased a Switch yet and might not till next spring.

Is it really that difficult making a game than it was 10 years ago when you only have one system to support?

edit- I'm looking for more mid tier games and not 3-5 year development time blockbuster "AAA" titles.

The higher the fidelity the longer the development times. The DS wasn't HD nor did it support digital surround sound. Comparing development times to the Switch is stupid.

It takes vastly more resources and manpower to make a BOTW than a Skyward Sword or a Phantom Hourglass, basically.

I guess the main problem is how big will be the game, in the Wii/DS era the game were simpler than nowadays, so now the time your team will spend doing modelling, arts, concepts and a lot of other small things take a very long time to be done, even reusing assets from previous games.

PS: I beg sorry about my english.

I think they are using the same assets for new Animal Crossing that they had on that Amiibo Festival "game" on the Wii U yet it still gets delayed.  They must have gone too ambitious with the online allowing 8 players probably pushed their team to the limit.

Lets see 1 system vs 2 systems.  Yep completely stupid.  Maybe they should have hired better programmers if they can't figure out "HD" development or buy a third party company like Capcom.  Shit small developers can make decent looking games with Unity.  I know there was some difficulty in progressing from standard to hd which you lost a lot of third party companies during that era but this is like a decade later.  How the fuck can you use the same excuse?  In 20 years are we still going to be using this excuse?  Also, Nintendo doesn't even use the highest graphic standards nor do they care.  You act like they are making the highest graphic games for PC.

Maybe making HD games take longer? Or Nintendo and/or subsidiaries haven't streamlined the process enough yet.

ANDY MURRAY:- GRAND SLAM WINNER!

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

It is you.

Look at what we have this year exclusive wise:
-Super Mario Maker 2
-Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3
-Astral Chain
-Luigi's Mansion
-Link's Awakening

-Fire Emblem
-Kirby
-Pokémon
-Their weird fitness RPG

And the console has almost 2000 games in its library in 2 years, which is very close to the Xbox One and PS4.

And yet you think it's pathetic ? Really ?

Aren't those two developed by third parties and only published by Nintendo?  Super Mario Maker 2 is just an upgrade from Wii U with added extras.  I'm talking developed by their internal teams not third party games.

Perhaps, but the process of making a game takes too long. I work with games, and the effort to make something goods is too high. Isn't a excuse for Nintendo though, since they have been in this area for years.
