It has been a lot of speculation on Internet that CD Red Project has downgraded some effects for the final build on every platform including PC.

Event the guy who work for the game admited, i got the conversation from Dualshockers:

"Lighting is absolutely crucial! And making an open-world game with always changing lighting conditions was a huge challenge. Every light in the game is dynamic, even some effects cast lights too, you can walk up to almost every light source and extinguish or ignite its flame, nothing is baked!

We ended up not using Global Illumination, light bouncing and reflecting… this is similar to what I mentioned previously with visual effects, an area where things keep getting better every year, but these really cool solutions are still far too expensive to use in a complex game. So to add more detail to the lighting, the whole world is covered in “lighting and reflection” probes, that analyze the surrounding area and light it accordingly. It does a pretty good job." -(Jose Teixeira CD Red Project Visual effect artist ) -

I also include some comparison graphic made by someone on other gaming forum, i don't know if it's true or not legit or not, i am not an expert on this but the guy have some point that need to be considered.

Hopefully these aren't accurate.

Talk about deception... :-O

Definitely looks like a downgrade. Lighting in particular seems to have taken a major hit.

The game has gone through a downgrade. Like Ubisoft CDPR over hyped this game. They said they were targeting CGI like visuals. Lol. I knew something like thing happen. Now only saving grace will be the gameplay and story.

At some point in development the artstyle was changed for one thing, CD Projekt decided to go for less realism and more art. However, it's clear that there was a downgrade. I get the feeling that it's because 8th gen consoles weren't as powerful as CD Projekt was expecting, and they had already committed themselves to making console versions and didn't want to go back on that commitment. That was rumored to be the reason for the Watch Dogs downgrade as well. There was a report that suggested that Ubisoft was hoping for about 2400-2600 gflops for 8th gen consoles, but in the end Xbox One is 1300 gflops and PS4 is 1800 gflops.

I think it's not the poblem off a console this also from the developer it self :

G: Current generation consoles have a lot of memory, but compared to a modern gaming PC their CPU and GPU aren’t exactly top notch, even if optimization and the ability to code at a lower level helps. This means that games like The Witcher 3 can load a lot of assets into memory, but what about all the effects, particles, lighting, shaders and the other elements that require a lot of sheer power? Was it hard to squeeze all of those on PS4 and Xbox One?

JT:  Oh boy, nothing like a question about hardware to summon the wrath of the fans! I shall attempt to answer this without people demanding my public execution. Was it hard to “fit” this game in consoles? Why yes, of course it was! And that’s the whole point! I’ll try to elaborate, without making it too boring: PCs evolve every year, so the limit to what we can do is constantly changing (believe it or not, that actually makes developing for pc quite difficult).

Consoles, on the other hand, are constants, so we know where the limits are, and it’s up to us to do as much as possible within them. That is a necessary challenge, and one that every gamer greatly benefits from.

Take the last generation consoles – compare a game from the first and the last year – it’s the same console, the same “performance limits”, yet the game looks so much better! Let’s think of it this way – The Witcher 3 is coming out on consoles that are about one and a half years old, and it already looks this good! Based on our experience making this game, the lessons we’ve learned, the ideas we already have to be able to do even more within these same limits… I, for one, am already super excited for the next couple of years.

Witcher 3 still looks gorgeous though, so frankly I don't really care about the downgrade. It's still one of the top 5 games so far this generation graphically imo.

Exactly how I feel.

We all know it. But the "question" is about morality; which is clearly broken in CDPR's case. They pulled a ubisoft here.

The game looks gorgeous as it is so for me its a must buy anyway.

I don't see how Building corner's needed to take a hit, it's not like it's running that much polygons -_-

Eh, it still doesn't really bother me. It's a little dissapointing but that's all. We don't know the reason for the downgrade, we can speculate that there were nefarious reasons behind the downgrade until we all go blue in the face, but the reasoning behind the downgrade could have been far more harmless than that. Maybe the higher-ups at the publishing division of CD Projekt pulled some of budget and the dev team simply couldn't afford to aim as high as they were aimining initially. I mean look at those early graphics, it would have taken a GTA V level budget to pull off those kind of graphics in an open world game.

The reason was premature reveal. They wanted to create hype and it has just started to backfire. I "hope" (yes; I do hope) they get a lot of backlash for this. Because trends like this might get even more traction. And yes. Budget is also a factor. But they should have known better how the game might turn up.

And I will be buying this game day one. Just like I got watch dogs. This gen is nothing but putting hype behind some random mess.
