Forums - Gaming Discussion - Belgian teen drops 37,000 Euros on free-to-play game

I don't understand how anyone could do this willingly, that's some serious cash.

Although there is clearly a problem in the mobile market if someone can spend 37,000 euros on a single game.

Two things.

1: I reckon he's lying and he was completely addicted to the game. WHen he was found out he used the oldes cop out in the book!

2: I never played these type of games but the stories of addiction I hear in relation to them puts me off ever wanting to try them. I play my PS4 too much as it is.. imagine I got hooked on one of those. And I have a lot of money saved I could lose. Scary thought.

This is not even that surprising anymore.. :/

I believe him that he didn't know how much he was spending, but if he did, he probably has some real problems so I would blame the "system" in that case for taking advantage of people in a sensitive condition. Shame on the writer for being skeptical.

I'm pretty sure they'll get the money refunded eventually. In app purchases is not an honest way to make money and it is no different to operating a casino (one open to minors like in this case).

Back when I was like 11 years old I was playing Perfect Dark Zero and the guns in that game cost "credits" which I was paranoid were somehow linked to real money, so I didn't buy any guns for the first couple games I played lol

Seems these days it's the opposite - kids think in-game stuff is really free

That's a funny story. :)

This still happens? Oh my god..

Bad parenting keeps gaming alive :)

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

In my childhood some slaps would work. Today it's crime.

Make it 120 paychecks just to be even.

Really? That's a lot of money.
