Over the past week I have seen multiple people say OoT was not their favorite Zelda title or that great of game. This has boggled my mind and even annoyed me in some instances.

I see no reason why this game should be ragged on after years of everyone saying it is great or was great. Obviously this is based on those who have only played the recent 3D remake. It was not just something differrent for its time people! It was revolutionary! The open worlds, stealth, story, epona, mini games, hidden objects, boss battles ( dat final battle!) dungeons and...fishing. What did it not have that makes you say it was sub-par?

You're 100% right. Having played OoT when it was a new game, I can say that it was truly revolutionary. The music, gameplay, graphics etc etc were great. Having a 3D detailed open world was just amazing; anyone claiming it wasn't anything special clearly is looking back at an era of gaming they were not a part of.

Would I replay it? No.  A good game does not necessarily need to be replayed to be good. It was a revoltionary game, but as time moves on, our expectations increase due to the advancements in technology and evolution in game design. If it was released yesterday, it'd be a pretty shit game. The fact it came out 10 years ago (or however long ago, cba2wiki) is the reason why it was revolutionary. Think about the lightbulb; no one would look at a lightbulb and say it's not revolutionary.

shit ? :S no way.. if releases this gen it still would blow everything away that is if the game is actualy made on this gen console, graphics etc.

not appreciating OOT is like not appreciating Michael Jackson lol

But saying if it was made with this gens graphics etc is not OoT....
Music is timeless; games are not. OoT by today's standards is small with shit graphics and basic gameplay. It's like a lightbulb compared to LED lighting is archaic. Nevertheless both helped pave the way for much greater things and therefore shouldn't be condemed just because someone can't appreciate it with hindsight.

Well for one it is in my opinion the worst 3D Zelda game to have been created and falling in the ranks if my bottom 5 Zelda games of all time. Now with that said, it's not a bad game. OoT got sequels that improved the gameplay. Wind Waker and T-Princess had a more expansive gameplay. I felt that those games felt like I was on a adventure, with the exapnsive worlds they have. I also think it's funny that some people said that they would like to have the big world that OoT had, but it's small pretty much smaller than TP.

Because "A Link to the Past" exists. That to me is quintessential Zelda and video games at their pinnacle.

I really did not care for the Saturn/PSone/N64 era at the time and feel it has aged poorly for me. I mean Mario 64 is my least favorite in the main Mario line so for Ocarina to still be among few games that generation I enjoyed is a testament of how much better it was than just about everything released then.

Because a Link to the Past is better and the top 5 games are occupied by FFX, every game featuring Cirno and Suikoden 1,2,5 (but since we can't put multiple games into one spot just put zelda;alttp on it ;P)

No argument, Ocarina of Time is still my #1 game that isn't an RPG.

It is still both the most fun and the most satisfying Zelda game to date.

The only reason it doesn't top my list is because I prefer RPGs to all other genres. I will take an average traditional RPG (Say Breath of Fire or Lufia for example) over nearly all other games of other genres considered great.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Zelda games died to me the minute i found out a Link to the past was not an RPG, which was like 10 minutes into the game. Also, I don't like the premise of having to rescue Zelda a bajillion times or defeat that ganon a bajillion times. It just doesn't appeal to me and I don't see how it's so iconic.

Because it's unrefined. It was flawless in 1998 but the game has aged. Groundbreaking and standard setting but it ain't what it used to be. I was tempted to say OoT 3D was the greatest since it fixed many of the issues I had with the original but, in the end, I just love Twilight Princess more.

If you played OoT when it came out, you'd have it #1 always.
Honestly, anyone that says otherwise has rendered their opinion on video games obsolete.

You're adding nostalgia to your objectivity rendering it flawed. I wouldn't expect many people who have never played OOT to date to come to the same conclusion you have, because when you play OOT, you play it with the feelings that it gave you at the time it was released.

It used to be incredible, but to somebody new to videogames now, other games do it bigger and better. I actually also know quite a lot of people (including myself) who prefer the 2D Zelda games to the 3D releases.

Amazing! I had no idea. I guess my preference and the hundreds of gaming sites with there top 100 lists are wrong. Wow!

I can side with you with one thing, that Zelda still has been my number 1 in the list. Just that its not Ocarina its Majoras's Mask for me. No other adventure game has taken over that spot.

1.Majora's Mask

2. Mario Galaxy two (artistic genius)

3.  Mass Effect (made me want to take part within the community. Emotional + Teamwork + Heroic + Humility)

my god people always mention the word outdated to bash OOT but when you ask them their top10 games mostly there is a game from the same generation and even before that generation...

and one of the guys above needed 10 years to beat the game so he played it on several occasions thru that 10 year cycle i mean come on you cant be for real..

I haven't played it and judging by it looks, I'd have to say graphics no matter how good it might be otherwise. It looks ugly and I would have thought that back then had I had the chance to play the game.
