For many years story driven FPS was my fave too but they died with the orange box, it never got better even though CoD Modern Warfares campaign was really fresh but those are short affairs and after that, nothing. You mention Woldenstien but that series went full emo, having Blaskowitz talk like Alan Wake the whole time make them a pain to play. If you want one that is light hearted and good fun with a pretty damn good story may I suggest Shadow Warrior 2013 (not it's sequel, it sucks as open world), it does doom with a story and is so muvh fun.

I guess CP 2077 counts, technically but I'd prefer a linear affair. 

DEUS EX was another franchise I had in mind as well! But yeah, like RTS games, story driven FPS took a nosedive lol. There is still some optimism to have hopefully with the likes of Perfect Dark, Judas, or just here in a couple of months, Metal Eden that was announced at the recent State of Play.

There's also been some greatness coming out of the indie scene and some more indie games that are releasing. Within the past couple of years there's been Selaco, Fallen Aces, Trepang2, and Atomic Heart. There are also some upcoming indie FPS games I'm looking forward like Mouse: P.I. for Hire, Chemical-Burn, Core Decay, Deep State, and Twisted Tower. 

I was also watching a video that Valve is now in the polishing phase of their next Half-Life game based on data leaks. Whether it's Half-Life 3 or another spin-off, doesn't matter, it's at least confirmed that it will be a single player FPS and that's all I need to know!

Yeah, there is the odd glimmer of hope, Tarpang2 did get it right but not really in the story aspect. I have hope for Judas even though immersive sims are only my thing if you can ignore the immersive sim aspect for the most part. I wouldn't put Bioshock anywhere near Half Life 2 in quality. Fingers crossed for Half Life 3... I guess, if the new announcement turns out the be Alyx 2 then the genre lives on in VR which is cool at least, people seemed to really like that but I'm not sure ai heard anyone praise the story. Would be cool if Half Life 3 was in VR and ended up being a full sequel with like a 20 hour campaign and graphics as good as a Sony first party game.
