Tl;DR in Bold.

What's your favourite genre or type of game, like perhaps it's something nuanced like narrative driven third person shooters with stealth action with semi open worlds connected by linear sections and uses a specifc weapon in a horror setting or just a genre like JRPGS.

Why is it your favourite and how much of your gaming time is devoted to that specific type of gaming.

Personally, by far my most loved is third person action games of any sort with swords as the main weapon. It ranges through Genres, Soulsborne, action, stylish action, hack and slash or anything in between. I particularly love the new sub genre that sekiro has created of rythymic parrying systems. I don't mind if they have no story at all cause it's all about progression for me and in souls borne you can ignore the story completely and it's still a great experience but I would prefer if there was a great story attached, yet many just can't seem to get that down in a meaningful way or end up getting story done well while not being great in other ways (Neir Automata) or vice versa with great gameplay and bad narrative (Stellar Blade. So until someone cracks the code of having a great story and gameplay without interrupting addicting progression, I'd just rather Soulsborne like lore or Sekiro like very light narrative moments and threads enough to be serviceable.

I've went through many genre favourites over the years and I'm sure I'd prefer western RPG's if given the choice of only having the one but this is the one area of gaming, since I first played through God of War in 2005 that has stuck with me the most and is by far the most I play. One which, since I played Bloodborne at least has let me down the least in the years since cause there were some bad years for the genre there and I don't agree that early Souls or Demon souls was the start, they were pretty shit before Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3 but to have games that are more fluid like Sekiro come on the scene and now to have a boom of them in the industry with devs trying different stuff in upcoming games like Phantom Blade 0 or Hell is us is just a delight and having some devs make AA titles like Wo Long Fall Dynasty or Blavk Myth Wu Kong is just a treat cause it adds flavour and not all games need to be triple A big  budget. For Wu Kong, it's a bigger fame than most AAA games at any rate.

I just love the unlock progression, itemization and exploration as well as the core gameplay if done ecen galf well and that's why Stellar Blade is like my third or fourth top game in this genre, it takes all that has came before and crams it all together for no other reason than pure fun but it doesn't get better than Sekiro, that game is a masterpiece beyond what I think we will see for a long time yet until someone manages to figure out how to make a narrative game like Neir Automata with gameplay like Sekiro/Stellarblade that also work in group combat like Ghost of Tsuhima instead of back and forth exchanges with style like stellar blade or Bayonetta and difficulty that is somewhere between Sekiro and Ninja Gaiden Blacks original release I think there is a sweet spot in there somewhere, Sekiro is difficult and all but a Sekiro 2 would be trivial for vets without some new mechanic/s and that might complicate the formula too much. I'm not sure it can be done but if it ever doesn't it'll be my number one game.

Hmmm, that's a tough one since I enjoy playing a variety of genres, but I would have to say FPS games. And I don't mean modern live service FPS. Although I still enjoy playing multiplayer from time to time. But I mean single player story-driven. Your Halo, Half-Life, System Shock, Wolfenstein, Doom, Crysis, Titanfall 2, STALKER, Bioshock, Killzone, Resistance, Prey, Metro, CP2077, or the original CoD Modern Warfare 2007-2011 trilogy where the campaigns were these awesome action blockbusters.

Majority are very distinct from each other, whether they're Action-Adventure, RPG, Immersive Sim, etc. but they all still feature FPS gameplay that I tend to have a lot more fun with because it just feels more engaging to me.

Other biggest genre I love that I was fighting on whether it would be first or not is Real-Time Strategy. This was the first genre of games that I was ever introduced to as a kid with Command & Conquer: Red Alert which over the years led me to the likes of Myth, Age of Empires, StarCraft, Warcraft, Rise of Nations, Empire Earth, Homeworld, and Total Annihilation, games that I still go back and play to this day. There's even been some great RTS games that have released in recent times, but just nowhere near the way they used to be.

Great choice. For many years story driven FPS was my fave too but they died with the orange box, it never got better even though CoD Modern Warfares campaign was really fresh but those are short affairs and after that, nothing. We still get doom and what not but that, thankfully cause it's cool AF, focuses on gameplay. Half Life 2 and it's episodes were the height of the genre and nothing has even tried to compete.

You mention Woldenstien but that series went full emo, having Blaskowitz talk like Alan Wake the whole time make them a pain to play. If you want one that is light hearted and good fun with a pretty damn good story may I suggest Shadow Warrior 2013 (not it's sequel, it sucks as open world), it does doom with a story and is so muvh fun.

I guess CP 2077 counts, technically but I'd prefer a linear affair.

DEUS EX was another franchise I had in mind as well! But yeah, like RTS games, story driven FPS took a nosedive lol. There is still some optimism to have hopefully with the likes of Perfect Dark, Judas, or just here in a couple of months, Metal Eden that was announced at the recent State of Play.

There's also been some greatness coming out of the indie scene and some more indie games that are releasing. Within the past couple of years there's been Selaco, Fallen Aces, Trepang2, and Atomic Heart. There are also some upcoming indie FPS games I'm looking forward like Mouse: P.I. for Hire, Chemical-Burn, Core Decay, Deep State, and Twisted Tower.

I was also watching a video that Valve is now in the polishing phase of their next Half-Life game based on data leaks. Whether it's Half-Life 3 or another spin-off, doesn't matter, it's at least confirmed that it will be a single player FPS and that's all I need to know!

Yeah, there is the odd glimmer of hope, Tarpang2 did get it right but not really in the story aspect. I have hope for Judas even though immersive sims are only my thing if you can ignore the immersive sim aspect for the most part. I wouldn't put Bioshock anywhere near Half Life 2 in quality. Fingers crossed for Half Life 3... I guess, if the new announcement turns out the be Alyx 2 then the genre lives on in VR which is cool at least, people seemed to really like that but I'm not sure ai heard anyone praise the story. Would be cool if Half Life 3 was in VR and ended up being a full sequel with like a 20 hour campaign and graphics as good as a Sony first party game.
