After the tutorial level, you are free to do what you want. The Master Sword is an optional story element. You don't need it, but if you want it, then you still need a recruirement to attain it. The same with death mountain. You can't just walk up there without preperation.
The same as you can't see the ending of the game without beating Ganon first.
