You oughto almost be blind to not see the difference between DVD and Blu-Ray. Or old, or a retard.

Yes, I'm old and almost blind. Thanks for rubbing it in my face.

Sharp, Vivid, Beautiful picture.
Smooth, Crisp, Soothing Sound.
In movie menus.
BD-Live when done properly.

To me those are the biggest things that make Blu-ray so great. I have a 50in Sony SXRD, and when veiwing an upconverted DVD the picture is very nice, but with Blu-ray it is like looking at the scence with no screen. I only have a 5.1 aduio setup, but the differance between the two formats is sipily day and night. With my setup Blu-ray puts movie veiwing in a whole new league. Before Blu-ray I was into movies at the theater, but often never cared to pick them up for home veiwing. Now I skip the theather, and just wait for the BD.

Sorry if you are not getting the same experiance I am, I feel real bad for you.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. While the TV does matter, you have to have the player set up correctly and be using the correct cables. If you don't notice much of a difference between DVD and BD than one of those is not correct. That or you really do need some glasses........or not, DVD is cheaper anyway, maybe its just best for you to stay with DVD. You may as well get a Wii too, cause with that vision it should look just as good as a 360 or PS3.

hang on, there are movies that auto switch between different aspect ratios through out it?

Damn that would be annoying. I thought when they list all the aspect ratios you can pic which one you want to watch it in.

Reason I say this is because I have NEVER seen a DVD auto switch aspect ratios depending on scene.

Cobretti2, parts of the Dark Knight were filmed with IMAX cameras and are a different aspect ratio to the 'normal' bits of the film. I've not seen any other films swap aspect ratio but this one definitely does. FWIW, the film was great at the IMAX.

I've just watched the Dark Knight on Blu-Ray, and I do think the quality is pretty good throughout. Particularly on close-ups of faces, the difference from a DVD is pretty clear - human vision is very well tuned to faces so most people should be able to see the difference here. However, it's clear when the action switches to the IMAX sections and back again, that to really make the most of 1080p, you need better than the current standard video cameras. The amount of detail captured by the IMAX cameras is clearly superior.

While I'd substitute Planet Earth for his choice of discs I certainly wouldn't argue with the sentiment. Don't let me or anyone else tell you if Blu-Ray is worth it. You've presumably got a PS3 so if you're not convinced by Blu-Ray then you're in the lucky position of not having wasted a lot of money on a Blu-Ray player.
