Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Bold Prediction: Animal Crossing going to Cross the 25mil Horizon

It's very possible, but not a given. 15 million lifetime is the bare minimum, basically. It will probably already sell 15 million by the end of 2020 or at least by the end of Q1 2021.

I'd say 20 million is pretty much a given. If it somehow sells 30 million or more, I will be very surprised. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Pokemon Sword/Shield are the only Switch games I can see selling 30 million units or more. I'm sure Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will hit at least 25 million.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 156 million (was 73, then 96, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million)

PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 48 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

The game would have to grow in the west a lot for this to happen. It’s possible, but I wouldn’t say it’s likely. I hope it happens, I’ll more than likely contribute 3 copies by the time it’s done selling

Lets break this down by what we know

-New Leaf became the highest selling 3DS game of all time, surpassing even Mario Kart and Pokemon
-Every series that has come to the Switch has achieved record high sales both on the platform, and for its franchise
-There are a lot of people who have not played Animal Crossing that have been waiting for a new console Animal Crossing game to get into the series

Honestly, New Horizons could give Smash Ultimate a run for its money in the race to cross the 20 million threshold.

Zelda:BOTW, SSBU, and pokemon (the most likely to cross the 5 mil after MK) will really cross 25 mil though???? I am not very optimistic esp zelda and ssbu.

I think that's ridiculous, but every time I doubt your predictions they wind up coming true, so I guess it will...

No. New Leaf only hit something like 11-12 million. There's huge growth potential for AC, because like Mario Kart it's a game that anybody can get into and play. Lots of non-gamers, get into games like Mario Kart, and Animal Crossing. But despite that, I don't see it hitting 25 million.

Not even close to being true, new leaf was the 7th best selling 3ds game. It didn't surpass Mario kart or Pokemon. The only place it may have been the best selling 3ds game is Japan.

Pokemon SwSh is less likely to cross the 25 mil mark than BOTW and SSBU.

Animal Crossing will sell 10-15 mln in 4 weeks.

I also agree that pokemon sh sw won't have such long legs... perhaps 5 more million and after the dlc it could have a boost but as soon as we get a new game by next year I don't know...also somebody knows how good animal crossing sold overseas? we got that it sold something like 5,8M in Japan alone but no idea about eu and usa
