I wanted to do write-ups for all of my games, but doesn't look like I will have time this year.  Oh well....

Here are clues starting into my top 10:

10.  I can't help but think that Steamworld Dig was inspired by this early 80's arcade classic.

9.  This series started on the Famicom, but it didn't leave Japan until this GBA entry.  Not Fire Emblem.

8.  Most people in the mid-90's went to the arcade to play fighting games, but I mostly went to play this 4-player beat'em up from Capcom.  First in the series.

10: Maybe Dig Dug?

9: Advance Wars

Both correct!

Hint 1: 11th game in the franchise, and the first one that isn't numbered.
Hint 2: Instead, it's named after the system it's on.

12.  The first hint sounds like Super Mario Party, but the second hint doesn't.  Is Super Mario Party called something different in parts of Europe?

No, but it's the correct franchise.

Well, what can I say about this game. It made the singlehandedly the Switch a success. It won a shitload of game of the year awards. It is among the highest rated on Metacritic. This game is successful, influental and just great.

Breath of the Wild is among the greatest games of all time, without feeling too much like a Zelda game. The game feels so free, so open, I can go everywhere, do everything, discover so much stuff. The physics engine even further allows for experimentation. This is just awesome. And the world to explore is interesting. The region matches the description of what happened. The ruins, the emptyness, the nature getting back at civilization, this matches the destruction 100 years ago. Many things show this in detail, like the massive field of destroyed guradians before the walls of Hateno village. For each village still existing is an explanation how it survived. Hidden in the mountains. Big wall. Only reachable by air. This all fits. At the same time civilization slowly gets back in form of the stables. This gives the game an overall feel of a coherent world.

And everything is so beautiful. The nature, the ruins, all so serene. Until you meet a monster, that is.

The game gives you so much stuff to do, to explore, to fight, to collect, that you can completely forget the main objective. Ganon? Zelda? Who cares.

#14 - Final Fantasy VII (PS1): I finally found this game back in 2007, with my friend. What a great experience! Final Fantasy VII was the first 3D entry in the series, and the first one for Playstation. Even if the graphics are outdated by this point, the plot is amazing, and the characters are very memorable. Also, the Remake is coming next year, and honestly, I can't wait to play it again!

Before we break into the TOP 10, I have to mention the games that didn't make this years list. Not because they are bad, but because they just got pushed out by other great games. So let's take a look at the games from 2017 and 2018, which aren't present anymore.

As you can see, seven games from last years list didn't make it this time. As one title from 2017's list (Rabbids Go Home) reentered this year, this means there are six titles on this years list, which are new. Well kinda new:

Dillon's Rolling Western was close to the TOP 50 in the past years and just did make the cut this time. Heretic is an old game, but I didn't play it before this year. Final Fantasy X I played for many hours on the PS2, but it was so long ago I just didn't remember. The HD-rerelease on Switch brought it back.

If you pay close attention, two 'new' games are still missing. Yes, they made my TOP 10.
