Yeah. I have a bad take. When one is comparing/contrasting PS systems, one is essentially comparing/contrasting different levels of excellence. It's fair to have a wildly unpopular opinion such as yours. Like the opinion that PS has "dropped the ball in the games department mightily." Yeah. That's a talking point that's difficult to avoid. Not that the PS4 might be perhaps, off the pace of it's predecessors in terms of the raw number of games, but that they've "dropped the ball in the games department mightily" A widely discussed issue to be sure, and not at all one that most would consider hyperbolic nonsense.....

And then we have this: "Tbh idk how any fan of Sony the last two couple gens can be happy with their game output this gen, it’s been barren" The temerity to go that route....As if the general praise and success of the PS4 is due to to....Primarily what? Indoctrination and brand bias? We're talking 6 years of software and hardware output, spanning multiple games, most of which have been both critically acclaimed and commercially successful. The jury IS IN, and it has been for quite some time. The planet Earth has spoken. The success and consumer satisfaction of the PS4 is indisputable. But yet no matter how much you furrow your brow and concentrate, you just can't understand how a majority of players of all types could possibly satiated, in spite of a universally lauded PS4 1st party lineup.

Is the opinion that other PS systems had better exclusives really "wildly unpopular"? I don't think it is, at least not with people who are old enough to actually have owned and spent significant time with all of them. I wouldn't put any stock in the consensus here on teh chartz, but I bet overall my opinion isn't "wildly unpopular".

Maybe people just forget how incredible the PS/PS2 and some of the PS3 libraries were? Idk. They blow the PS4 away imho.

Total ps/ps2 library yea sure maybe.

But ps3's small library blow the ps4 away? Are you playing in the same ps4 gen as i ?

Ps3 genn is the worst in total.

Exclusives where awesome yea ,but the quality exclusives on ps4 is a lot better.

The PS4 has some great games for sure but it doesn't even come close to the ps3 or 360. We'll never see another gen with...

2 Elder Scrolls games
2 Fallout games
3 Dragon Age games
3 Mass Effect games
3 Risen games (lol?)

And that's just the beginning...

Lol at the one who thinks sony's exclusives are not better.
Lol at the one who talks about original games, nothing is original anymore.
Lol at the one who dismisses hundreds of awesome indie games, there still games ya know.
Lol at the one who really believes the ps3 library is better then ps4.

Advice for that person ,go play more games

All 3 systems that are selling right now, Xbox one, Switch and Ps4, have only a couple of “original” titles, but it’s understandable.

what is also true is that there are a LOT of games for the 3 systems, In my case I never liked Nintendo games, but my wife does, possibly because they are too Casual, that’s why we have a lite. Xbox one X is for 4K movies and yeah I used my PS4 a lot this gen.

The PS4 is bigger and better than ps3’s library in part because all of the remasters/remakes. But also the quality in first party games increased extremely, that’s why they are selling so well.

Ow? Ps3 whas the worst of the 4, why you think ps4 is the worst? Curious about it.

I also think the PS4 is the worst of the 4, and here is why.  I've been gaming a really, really long time.  The main reasons I play games (in this order) are 1) to have a totally original experience, 2) to have a good challenge and 3) to play local multiplayer with my family.  Playstation tends not to be good with #3, and games in general have gotten easier since the 8/16 bit era.  So, the main thing I look for in a Playstation console (and the most important to me) is to have a totally original experience.  Playstation 4 is the worst at that out of all of the Playstations.

Probably the best was the PS2.  Some new types of games I enjoyed on the PS2 were Kingdom Hearts, Katamari Damacy, Ico & Shadow of the Colossus, and Spider-Man 2.  When I played these games, they were nothing like anything that I had played before.  Also, my favorite franchise used to be Final Fantasy, and each new game in the series tends to be extremely different, so games like FF10, FF12, and Dragon Quest 8 also felt very new to me, even if they were technically just the next iteration in the franchise.  On the other hand the only games I've actually enjoyed on the PS4 were Uncharted 4, Spider-Man, and Dark Souls 3, and even then, these games felt very similar to previous entries in their series.

So, I understand that you are younger, and probably lots of games on the PS4 feel very new to you.  That is fine, because these are extremely fun games if you have never played them before.  And if you look at older consoles, then maybe the graphics look so dated that you wouldn't even consider playing them.  From my perspective, I don't even care about graphics anymore and I am more interested in gameplay and original experiences.  And currently game companies are very reluctant to make new experiences.  My favorite console (of all time) is actually the NES.  Most people probably couldn't appreciate the NES anymore, because the games seem so dated.  But Breath of the Wild uses the design principles of the original NES Zelda.  So when Breath of the Wild comes out a lot of people declare, "Wow, this is the greatest game ever made."  But I don't think that.  I think it's a great game, but only because they went back and made a game like they used to.

So, top studios today mostly do not try to innovate or take risks, and PS4 games are the epitome of that.  Instead they, at best, make modest improvements on what has come before.  But if you haven't played these games before, then I bet they are awesome.  I liked a lot of these games the first time I played them too.  But after a while the same types of games over and over seems stale.

Try PSVR

I agree that the ps and ps2 had more exclusives but really not the ps3 as that one is the barren wasteland compared to ps4 and i see so much creativity on my console, maybe not always from the big developers but from the smaller ones.

Agree on PS/PS2, they had some truly amazing exclusives. Disagree about PS3 being worst, and also disagree that the exclusives on PS4 are better. Imho almost any genre they’ve released a game in this gen, you can go back to last gen and find something better. And there are just so many less games this gen. But it’s cool, we’re all entitled to our opinions.

I wish we got to see a next gen Motorstorm, Twisted Metal, or SOCOM.

So let me get this out of the way, are we talking about the WHOLE ps4 libray. Exlcusives/indies/japanese/chinese(yes chinese) games or does the ps4 only have the exclusives?
I havr over 300 ps4 physical games and jesus its waay, waay, waaaaaay more diverse then my ps3 collection(over 400)
And stil need a lot more.

The PS4 is the best console ever, IMO.

The scope, ambition, polish, refined mechanics of games this gen has made the PS4 my default choice. Games like GOW, Horizon, and RDR2 blow anything out of the water from previous gens. Aside from nostalgia, I don't see how older consoles match the PS4, or even the Switch, in terms of actual games.

PS1 has LOD!!!

For me it only makes sense to move forward. If gens weren't getting better and games as well I would keep playing old stuff, I wouldn't expend money to play what I would consider worse.

I do have some nostalgia, but I rather they make a remaster/remake so I can play with current visual and gameplay than going back to play PS1 games (even though I loved replaying Soul Reaver and FF IX on PS3 and PS4 - but original version... still I played probably 2 or 3 dozen remakes and remasters that were better than they were on the original because they kept the soul of the game intact just giving the paint cover and polish it needed to look current).
