Forums - Gaming Discussion - Just got a Switch, what do I need?

This topic has been discussed hundreds of times but I never thought I'd get one so I never payed much attention. Just looking for recommendations. What accessories, SD card, ect should I get or need. Is a pro controller a must? I'll probably play it mainly in docked mode. Thanks. P.S i haven't been on the site in a while, be gentle.

You should probably get a big ass micro SD card since they are pretty cheap these days. Not sure size limit since don't have a switch. Also if you are going to play mainly docked then you prob should get pro controller.

MicroSD card is a must. They're pretty cheap on Amazon right now,

The one I got back in 2017 was a SanDisk Ultra 256 GB card. I've still got plenty of space left on it and right now you can get it for $37, which is about half the price I bought it for back then. It was on sale too. Though now, I would recommend the 400 GB one which is on sale right now for $52.50.

As for accessories, a Pro Controller, while a bit on the pricey side, is well worth it I find. Much more convenient and comfortable then the standard Joy-Cons with the handle. Also, I've had my 2 Pro Controllers since 2017, one of them I got at launch on March 3rd, and they both still work great with no drifting whatsoever.

Mario kart 8, super Mario party, smash bros. Ultimate, Mario odyssey.

Huge sd card.

Pro controller or GameCube version.

- A thick case, because the console is very uncomfortable and the extra width from most cases helps, and also protect the back, which is very prone to scratches.

- Screen protector. Definitely a must if you want the best image possible and plan to play a lot in handheld mode.

- Micro SD card. 128GB at the very least, less than that doesn't cut it even if you are a casual downloader.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

Welcome back to VGC and congrats on your new system. :)

I'll add my voice to the sd card choir, and as far as which one to pick, I've had very good experiences with SanDisk Ultra.

As far as games go, what genres/types of experiences are you interested in?

Thank you, its good to see some familiar faces. Games, I guess exclusives are the big one. I play a little of everything so id take any suggestions.

in terms of size limits I believe the Switch has a limit of 3TB micro SD card, but since the 1TB type of them has just launched this year and that costs 400 sterling, it will be a while before we are worrying about the Switches upper limits on SD card compatibility.

Okay, well as far as exclusives go I'd recommend:

- Mario Odyssey

- Splatoon 2

- Xenoblade 2

- Astral Chain

- Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle

- Smash Bros Ultimate

- Yoshi's Crafted World

- Mario Maker 2

Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
