Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Are Nintendo games held to an unrealistic standard?

No, no, no!! It is perfectly rationale that all 90 separate reviewers have secret meetings where they all agree to give Nintendo high scores.

Nintendo heavily relies on their big franchises like mario, zelda and pokemon.
God knows how many sub genres and games nintendo have created using the 'mario' brand.
Would love to see them innovate and create a brand new IP.

Depending on big franchise is pretty common. MS has hit out Halo and Forza many times over. Sony has been hitting God of War, Uncharted, Killzone and some others pretty hard as well. Perhaps Nintendo develops the least amount of new IP, but redundant franchise characters is pretty common.

You mean like splatoon, arms, astral chain, wonderful 101 etc.

Just trying to repeat what he did to Nintendo and it isn't like any point i said was wrong either

Well, yes. A lot of the stuff you mention about Sony’s games, dismissing them or refusing to give credit where credit is due is indeed wrong.

And it seems like you aren’t willing to be objective at all.

BraLoD, while still coming off as biased (he admits to be so, no less), still gave Nintendo games due credit on many occasions.

I personally think it is futile to argue over this topic, since reviewers all approach the games they review with their individual set of biases, be it for the game genre, developer, console the game is made for, etc. So trying to say the reason a game got a high meta is because it’s unilaterally agreed upon among all reviewers that said developer or franchise deserves a special treatment is simply irrational.

And yet in the end he made a conclusion that because it's Nintendo so they get easy pass... Not to mention, all the points which i mentioned, what's wrong about them? You haven't answer me yet

The actions and comments that led to your latest ban should provide reason enough as to why I haven’t and won’t push this further with someone like you.

I think in regards to expecting high sales, yes. Nintendo is also held to a unrealistic standard when people expect there to be as many diverse IPs as there was during the GCN and Wii.

I am not justifying Nintendo taking forever with Metroid, Pikmin, a main series Animal Crossing, dropping F-Zero, etc. But what I am saying is that the market changes over time. I do hope Nintendo realizes that the Switch has the largest core audience by number of any of their platforms in probably a while. Thus, hopefully they revive F-Zero, make a Star Fox game that people actually like, make a Paper Mario people like, etc.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 151 million (was 73, then 96, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million)

PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 57 million (was 60 million, then 67 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

Because you have nothing to counter back?

Nintendo make some fantastic AAA titles but they also put out some really good AA or even work together with companies like Jupiter to bring A titles like Picross and such on the Switch.

Each title is rated on its own merits, games like 1-2 Switch or Mario Tennis get flamed when they're missing content or when they're just not good value for money and likewise games like Breath of the Wild and MK8D get great reviews because the games are incredible, if you have issues with big site reviews then just go on youtube and search for some of those vids where you see the first 10 mins of the game or w/e and make up your own mind, there is tons of ways of getting info about a game you are thinking of buying in 2019, if you suspect one of those channels has corruption in it, then ignore that channel and read elsewhere.

Also @ people who say that Mario is a brand which Nintendo relies on too much and such.... keep in mind that using Mario as the protagonist of a game basically takes away the character creation side of the development of a new title and it then frees up that time to spend on focusing on the actual gameplay rather than coming up with a new edgy main character who'll probably get 1-2 titles at most before being forgotten about. It also saves a ton on marketing of a new character, people know Mario, you take that 3d model of a plumber and stick it into a new sports title or so... you got a ton of sales because people will buy it for the Mario character appearing in the game and hopefully with the extra time Nintendo saves on creating a roster of sports characters instead they can use that time to focus on more gameplay. It's win / win for Nintendo / Gamer when Nintendo uses Mario in a new title.
