Furukawa Says Nintendo Could One Day Shift Away From Console Development

Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Furukawa Says Nintendo Could One Day Shift Away From Console Development

Honestly I hope he's kidding, because that sounds like a terrible idea.

Just because Nintendo is seeing surprising profits from their mobile games doesn't mean they should one day abandon consoles. Consoles have been an all too important part of Nintendo's business model, and they can't just say goodbye like that, even if it's not the immediate future.

I get what he said about the industry changing, but some things are meant to stay.

Makes sense since all 3 console makers will inevitably move to some type of streaming service for all type devices including phones.

But they'll have to share their revenue with the manufacturers of those devices, which they never had to with their own consoles.

The thing is, they will be alright with the quality of their franchise. If there is one day a system with every game for streaming (or maybe multiple one idk), i think Nintendo will be obviously the one that has the better chance of surviving opposite to Sony and Ms which their best selling titles are third party.

But then it would mean Nintendo is third party by then too. You really want to see the end of first-party development?

It's inevitable for the big 3 to all stop producing hardware at some point.

Maybe, but the thought of it really bothers me. It's like a big part of my life getting swept under the rug, all because of the influx of smart devices.

Same here, it's legit scary to think about.

Sounds like a panic headline that doesn't mean anything.  Nintendo's obviously not leaving the console business anytime soon.

I always had hoped that in the future we'd have new display technologies to utilize for gaming, like 3D holograms, maybe even with haptic feedback. Why can't Furukawa think of that as a new way to play?
