Forums - Sales Discussion - How is the Switch going to sell 20M when it only sold 1.88M this quarter?

Kids usually get their presents on Christmas.

Y’all sleeping on Pokemon Let’s Go that’s all I’m gonna say

Because its like The Colour Splash version of Paper Mario.
Its changeing the formula of pokemon... It ll probbly sell well, but I doubt it ll be a fan favorite in the series.

Depends on how much Nintendo is willing to go to reach their own target. If they're happy with being a million or two off but with maximised profits then probably not. But if they think it's important to get that bigger install base they can go 3DS and give Switch price cuts, bundles, probably too early for a revision but they can release special coloured editions.

Same topic open for the 4th time ?

Nope. As I said in the financial thread, if they beat every quarter from last year by 1M, or just the holiday quarter by 3M, they will still be a little over 2M behind. 17M-18M is what it'll do.

The only thing that may help is a $50 price cut. Bundles alone aren't going to cut it.

Wii in fiscal year Apr 09-Mar 10 is probably the best comparison.

Q1-2.23
Q2-3.52
Q3-11.31
Q4-3.48

It kinda just coasted with small-medium tier titles for most of the year and had two big things that pushed sales like crazy during the holidays.

1. Price cut in the last week of Sept.
2. New Super Mario Bros Wii in Nov.

Its similar to Switch this year in that its been coasting with some medium tier titles and is saving two big guns for the holidays, Pokemon & Smash Bros while likely also getting its first value bundles.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii was the great and last Wii system seller. The sales spike in December was legendary.

20M units this fiscal year was always a very optimistic goal by Nintendo. Back then I didn't expect them to reach this number and now with the Q1 result it's seems even more unlikely.

Thank you for the data. Do you know where we can find EVERY fiscal Q results for every machines ?

So I still bet that Switch will break the Q3 record of all time and make a 12M. So 20M is still reachable :

Q1 = 1,88

Q2 = 4

Q3 = 12

Q4 = 4

If they make a price cut they can reach 22M+
