No online? No Pokemon outside of the original 151?! No wild battles?! Fuck, it's just going to be Yellow with better graphics. That's fucking stupid. I like the idea of co-op, I like the idea of a return to Kanto, but really? This is fucking stupid. As a spin-off, I'll enjoy them, but there's so much missed potential here.

Wait, where did they say no online?

What's funny is that this game actually handles wild encounters better than literally every other Pokémon RPG ever made.

Agreed. No more of this.

Hope that is one thing that transitions into the main game next year. Maybe they can bring back lighting mechanics in caves, but instead of Flash one's Pokemon lights the way, or one can buy torches/flashlights. The more light you have the better chance to avoid undesirable Pokemon.

So... Will it be what will bring the Switch at 20 millions sales this year, like so many people predicted?

NS will hit 20m even with out it the platform was at 17m come the end of March.

Nintendo's objective is 20 millions this year alone (April 2018-March 2019), not in total...

Howso? By not having an option to fight the wild Pokemon?

I know it is a spinoff, but at the end of the day, this is still the best looking pokemon game ever made (so far). And at it's heart it's still a 3D HD remake of Kanto so I'm hyped.

2019 games will be the real deal though.

I have mixed feelings.

The Good

-Visible Pokemon in the overworld finally after generations of waiting

-Pokeball throwing motion controls

-Co-op functionality

-Battling is still the same turn based goodness we're used to

The Bad

-You no longer have to weaken Pokemon before you catch them. How are they going to make catching Legendaries feel right with this new mechanic?

-The graphics, they're barely an upgrade over Sun and Moon

-The artstyle, the character models look weird, they kind of returned to the chibi style of gen 6 which sucks

-Only the original 151 Pokemon

-No sign of the rumored new Pikachu and Eevee evolutions

Did they confirmed only 151 pokemon and no wild battles?

This was brilliant imo. It seemed like 2018 would have been almost a waste of a main series Pokémon title... it would have been very successful of course, but this is still early to expect a lull in Switch sales. Releasing the main one in 2019 essentially guarantees it will have a great year all on its own, and this year is already looking strong without it.

Also just want to say it is absolutely pure Nintendo to have a Pokemon game with no online features being released at the same time that you want people to pay to access online features for Switch games. That's just... amazing.

Hahahaha, perfect.

Also want to say that this allows GameFreak more time to get the core game right. It was unreasonable to expect a revolutionary core game only two years after Sun and Moon, but it is reasonable to expect them to put a few people on this side project while they build something much more ambitious.
