Well, Goku checks out in terms of that. Nintendo has been breaking their own rules for Smash for a while. They just have been doing it a step at a time. I wouldn't be surprised if Goku came to smash but I would be laughing at all the responses.

Really? That's when you realized anything goes in Smash? You should have been around when Snake showed up in the Brawl trailers.

Cloud is an icon for a long lasting series that has a big ties with Nintendo. Goku represents nothing.

Well Cloud is mostly known in the hardcore videogame community, Goku is known in pretty much every community out there.

LOL! Seriously the irony in your comment is unreal.

Goku's creator, Akira Toriyama, is the same guy who designed the characters in Chrono Trigger and Dragon Quest and he was chosen for this because of his highly succesful masterpiece Dragon Ball. So if anything Chrono is the obscure videogame character and should bow down to Goku.

Exactly, i'll admit that I found Cloud's inclusion pretty cool but at the same time a dumb move by Nintendo including one of the main backstabbers when they most needed them. Not only that, Square turned their backs on Nintendo ever since and never gave them another mainline FF game, we've yet to see if the FF 7 Remake will ever make it to Nintendo consoles which seems even more unlikely.

you bring up pokemon, which is and has been the biggest cultural phenomenon of the modern era since Red and Blue were released. every game in the main series receives critical acclaim, it has its own store chain, entire networks of website, TCG leagues, and communities who actually play the games and discuss it in an organized manner. all beyond anything ive seen from Dragon Ball. 

Yeah i can tell you don't know much about Dragon Ball. Most of those recent memes and jokes are aimed at Dragon Ball Super and i'll be honest with you... I don't watch that shit.

The fact that Dragon Ball Z has so many videogames, animes, trading cards, toys and is known worldwide is because it's a really good show. 1984 - 1997 was the Dragon Ball golden age in Japan, 1999 - 2004 was the golden age in the rest of the world. I'm telling you it's really that good and most of the kids here don't seem to like it simply because it's anime, apparantely anime is for weirdos and pedophiles. Even if you don't like anime you should give Dragon Ball 1986 a watch.

Yes, but none of them are Final Fantasy 7 which is the game Cloud's design was based on in Smash 4 not from spinoffs. Goku has been pretty much on every Nintendo consoles since the NES back when they renamed it Dragon Power!!!

Yeah i cringe everytime i see Ganondorf get his ass handed to him by Jigglypuff and not only that, but in terms of tier list Ganondorf is actually one of the weaker guys of the whole game!

Doesn't change the fact he have appeared on Nintendo systems before and use Cloud's design in FFVII is the easiest way to recognize him, also, Cloud in Theatrhythm Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy Explorer have the same clothes as Cloud in Super Smash

Plus I can guarantee that you could walk up to just about any American under 40, and if you asked them who Goku was, then they would know who you're talking about.

I asked fourteen different American tourists ranging in age from 20 to 35 who the Latin hero Goku was, and none of them knew what I was talking about. I clarified that it was Japanese speaking Latins, and they were even more confused.

One also pulled a gun on me and threatened to shoot me in the face. But that was from an unrelated pickpocketing incident.

There is no rule anywhere that says Smash can only contain characters that originated on a Nintendo console (obvious) or that they originated in a video game. Goku is a pop culture figure, regardless of the level of downplay from some other people here and there on the internet. It makes sense to include Goku if they want to continue expanding the roster outside of their original purview. Hell, perhaps they will give us an announcement at E3 that DBFZ is coming to the Switch... and that Goku is gonna be in that AND Smash.

Really though, there's no argument for Goku in Smash other than "I want him" as he simply isn't a video game character. Popularity won't help that case or we would've had Luke Skywalker by now and wouldn't have had Duck Hunt Dog.

I'm pretty sure nobody asked for Cloud to join Smash 4 as a late DLC. Popularity was not how he got in but rather a behind the scenes deal between Nintendo and SquareEnix many of us speculate (or dream) that FF 7 Remake port makes it to Switch which probably won't happen anyways.

Bayonetta is a character that made it because of popularity and won the ballot which i honestly find hard to believe myself but i voted for her as well so i'm just glad she made it.

That is exactly what i'm waiting for them to do it's the best way to end this years' E3 with a bang.
