Yoshi goes to being irrelevant again. Seriously that game shows up, disappears for months, then reappears randomly again

can the game or release it already

They didn't give release dates for anything after July yet. It's very likely that Yoshi will be their August or September game. They probably didn't want to release it too close to the other 2D platformers (Kirby and Donkey Kong).

Probably. It just gets on my nerves though lol

Let me be clear that I mean that Switch hardware sales will be disappointing this year.  Kimishima will fall short of his hardware sales goals.  In 2017, Nintendo released 4 games that are selling extremely well: Zelda, 3D Mario, Mario Kart, and Splatoon 2.  This year the only game we know of that is off similar caliber is Smash Bros.  The first party library of 2018 pales in comparison to 2017.  Unless they have another big game ready, then hardware sales are going to be disappointing.

They didn't just make these sales goals up with no reason, though. They know how well their games sell approximately, so they did the math and came to the conclusion that they could sell about 20 million. They know the full line up, so their prediction would probably be better than ours.

Remember, we don't know a single release date yet for August and beyond, and these are by far the biggest months of the year.

We may not know exact dates, but we do know most of the first party games that will be released in the second half of 2018.  Captain Toad, Smash Bros, Yoshi, Metroid Prime 4, and Fire Emblem have all been mentioned for 2018 release and they aren't coming in the first half.  That is already almost a game a month.  They may have another game or two as a surprise, but unless it is Pokemon or a huge port like GTA5, then I think they are going to be disappointed with their hardware sales.

No, Kimishima said they wanted to sell 20 million in 2018 alone.

Im pretty sure that was referring to fiscal year shipments so April 2018-March 2019.

But even so we should wait until the next financial briefing when they give the official forcast.

True enough.  We won't know their official forecast until their next financial briefing.

I still think Pokémon is likely to be released this year. The Pokémon guy at E3 said: "It may still take more than a year until it gets released", which sounds like they're trying to make it a holiday 2018 game. It would also fit very well in the schedule, since they would probably want to release Smash together with the online service in September. If either Fire Emblem or Yoshi releases in August, and the other one in October, they would still need a big game for November. Pokémon would be perfect for that. Captain Toad and 3rd parties are just minor games to fill in the gaps, so these shouldn't be a problem. And Metroid Prime 4 will probably be released in 2019.

Of course, things may very well turn out completely differently, but I don't think this schedule is unlikely at all.

I think Animal Crossing is more likely to be November's big game. The last Pokemon generation came out in November 2016, and a gap of only 24 months is smaller than any previous generational leap for Pokemon. On the other hand, the last Animal Crossing game came out in November 2012, and six years is longer than any previous gap between Animal Crossing games; the current biggest gap is between City Folk and New Leaf, at four years.

I am very skeptical of a Pokemon 2018 release.  Going from the 3DS to the Switch is such a huge technological leap, that there are going to be delays.  If we are just talking graphics, then 3DS outputs in 240p while Switch is 720p in handheld and 900p or 1080p docked (depending on the game).  That is a big jump for Game Freak to make.  They are going to delay the game to get it right instead of rush it with significant flaws/bugs.

Anyway, if Pokemon does come out this year, then I will have to take back everything I've said, but I just don't think it's going to make a 2018 release.

10/10, the last 5 minutes were god tier! Finally Splatoon dlc I'm more than willing to buy (I count amiibo as dlc), and of course, Smash with my new main! The only real downer was the 3DS segment, specifically the remakes, and specifically the unnecessary remake of BiS, like, why even? The game is already playable on 3DS, and there are already 3 M&L games on the system. 2019 release is just lol. Idk maybe I'm just salty they keep remaking M&L games instead of Thousand Year Door. I guess ARMS too was a bit dissapointing for not having any new content coming.

I skipped the Kirby segment as I already know I'm getting it, but it sounds like whatever they showed was good so that's all I need to know! Mario Tennis, very happy with it's showing of deeper gameplay mechanics and having demo tournament to help decide if I pick up the game. Good that they stuck with Octopath Traveler as the name since changing it at this point might cause confusion. Between it and Crash it'll be a struggle deciding what to grab first. South Park I'll have to look into now, and Dark Souls I'll give the test demo a try, though I thought it was a singleplayer only game. Also confused with Travis Strikes Again, was that gameplay of the main campaign or just a side mode? Eitherway I like the arcadey-beat em up style.

That was the reason of my original question.  Most people see ports as a bad thing, plus labeling for example the fracture but whole a game that came 5 months ago the same way you label Tropical freeze which is a 4 year old game doesn't seems fair to me.

Ports are never a bad thing, and the hybrid nature of the Switch justifies pretty much every one, but they can't replace original titles.  The lack of new announcements that haven't already been on other systems is disappointing no matter how good Okami and Captain Toad are.  after Zelda, Mario, Xenoblade, Splattoon, Arms, Mario + Rabbids, and Fire Emblem Warriors 2018 looks kind of barren when it comes to big exclusives.  Right now there's Kirby, Mario Tennis, and Yoshi from Nintendo, with not a peep from Fire Emblem.  Even Smash could still be just an enhanced port, which would make the 2018 lineup look worse.  Obviously there will be more announced at E3, but to go the first half of the year with no original games bigger than Kirby and Mario Tennis is disappointing after having Zelda and an exciting new IP in the first half of 2017.

Maybe for you and me ports aren't a bad thing, but what i said is that most people think ports are bad just because they're old games. In this case they include in the same frase "ohh only ports ports ports" south park and okami hd (less than 6 month old games) with Captain toad and Donkey Kong TF (2014 games).

For the rest i agree, but only because nothing beats Zelda

What exactly are disappointing hardware sales, anything less than 20m? Also, I hope you're not thinking 2017's line-up will have no further impact on hardware sales. The Switch so far this year is keeping above 200k a week, yet no new game has released, so that can only mean Mario/Zelda/Splatoon/etc. are still selling systems. Naturally it's only gonna go up from here once games start releasing regularly again.

Masuda has been the director of every new Pokemon generation since gen 3 with the exception of gen 7 which could possibly mean hes been working as director on gen 8 while a different team was working on gen 7.

Also Pokemon is officially listed as 2018 or later by Nintendo, i doubt they would say that if 2018 isnt what they are aiming for.

Mario & Luigi games are made by AlphaDream and they haven't done any work on other IPs since Superstar Saga on the GBA. I guess they have to hire more people to work on a Switch game, so they are doing remakes on the 3DS in the meantime.

Dark Souls should be single-player, so the online portion is similar to Xenoblade Chronicles X's online portion outside of the dedicated arenas where players can go online and help each other in some indirect ways. Although just like XCX it might have a more conventional, albeit limited, online component too.

Travis Strikes Again seems to be split in its main campaign. One half is similar to what is known from the previous two games, the other half is about entering seven different video games that can take on various forms of gameplay. Of course, I can't give you an exact percentage split. I assume the trailer focused on the virtual video game portion to highlight something new in comparison to the previous No More Heroes games.

They surely had time to prepare for HD development, but ahwell. 2017 3DS games didn't sell too well, so BiS remake in 2019 is pretty much doomed to fail, I just hope they know that. Thanks for the clarifications though!
