The same way I felt when it was unveiled. It's not RE. The last Resident Evil game was Resident Evil Zero. After that, Capcom made a new IP and used the Resident Evil universe to help sell it. It worked for RE4 and failed after that. When they saw Outlast, they ripped it off and then once again, slapped the Resident Evil universe on top of it and people bought it. I suspect history will repeat itself and each game from here on out will sell gradually worse until it's almost dead whereby Capcom will make a new IP, slap Resident Evil on it and sell it off as the genuine article.

But for me? Resident Evil has been dead since RE Zero. Third person, tank controls, stagnant cameras, solving puzzles, eery atmosphere sound effects (ticking clocks etc.) and music, type writers with limited saves, cheesy dialogue, hand written notes to find and collect, storage rooms with changing music, storage boxes... the very FEEL of those original games?

 It's all dead.

The first half was great, and lived up to the RE name. Great suspense and loved that it incorporated aspects from the early games, like a beautiful tribute. But then the game does a 360, change of environment and game turns to shit. Bad and wasted opportunity. The game was also short, like it deliberately cut out content for dlc. And i was right. Shortly after 2 dlc packs come out, which should have been in game. I only played the first dlc, then another 2 came out i have yet to play, but im certain it includes gameplay of the same style of what came before. So if u buy the complet package, you might be somewhat pleased, but as a standalone title, we got ripped off by capcom, given a game with beautiful 2 or 3 hours of gameplay, for $60, with the other half missing. If u can get all dlc and the game at a bargain price, then maybe pick it up.

Feel the same way as I did when it was released. I think it's not even close to what I wanted from the older RE titles, which is why I'm looking forward to RE 2 remake than this game. Since I don't have a VR headset, I also have zero interest for tacked on VR modes either.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

It's an OK game. For me, RE4 is still a lot better...in many ways.

But it's not a bad game. I just wish the controls were a little better, and there was more variety to the enemies and environments. After a while, it seemed a little repetitive.

Terrified and not afraid to admit it. Absolutely terrified. I haven't even made it past a quarter of the way through the first level without having to take the headset off...

It is not a proper RE game. It is just an "horror" game, not RE.

I thought it was poor.

The tape sections were fantastic, but the core game was not.

I had issues with the bland enemies, poor boss battles and the Baker family in particular were painful. Abysmal voice acting and overreacting. It was like watching an amature snuff movie or something.

Not scary in the slightest. Alien Isolation was way better.

I've had Alien Isolation for at least a year but I've never played it. Well, I did play it but I didn't play it for very long. I keep hearing how good it is so I need to go ahead and get into it.

As for RE7, I had cold "fear sweat" dripping from my arm pits almost the entire time. Even when I tried it again, I found myself jumping at my own shadow. Sorry it didn't do it for you.

For me, it's the first game that really had the "Resident Evil" feel since the first one (and REmake and Resident Evil O). That feeling of fear, puzzles, and exploration just wasn't there for 2,3, and Code Veronica. 4,5,&6 we're all good in my opinion and an evolution that needed to happen because the original style had gotten too stale. I never felt fear aside from the intro in RE4, though. No puzzles, either (aside from some RE5 DLC).

I love the series as a whole. I'm currently playing RE Revelations 2 on the Switch even though I beat it on Xbox One when it first released and RE7 is light years better than the Revelations games.

Lol! I know that feeling.

There was one time when my wife grabbed me while I was playing. I swear, I almost died. I felt my soul leave my body! Soldier on, though. Once you get your hands on a weapon, it gets better.

*And with that, I'm done quoting everyone! I'm not doing it on purpose. As I read the thread, I keep seeing posts I want to reply to!

I probably need to pick it up but compared to the other games it looks fillerish. Don't like the first person and I agree that it took the whole "IT NEEDS TO BE SCARY AGAIN" complaints too seriously. I think the Revelations game nailed the classic aspects fans wanted to return to in some way.
