Forums - Sales Discussion - Analyst: Switch may have sold 7m units globally during Oct-Dec, bringing LTD sales at more than 14.6m

The analyst's numbers sounds more like shipped numbers than sold.

Great, with "Vita" removed from the title none of the comments make any sense anymore.

Nintendo has no habit of using decimals in such announcements. Their NPD PR also mentions full millions of sales when, for example, the 3DS crosses milestones such as 15m or 20m.

December 10th was a Sunday and the final day of the week is where conventional tracking methods add up all the data and compile charts. All this means is that December 10th wasn't necessarily the day on which Switch reached 10m units in sell-through; it could have happened on any day during that week.

This doesn't mean that I am arguing in favor of "10.5m or more" and anything that is built on it (forgive me for responding only to you, look at it as being worth the time of a response), but merely that it is very much possible that the figure on December 10th was higher than 10.0m. The number 10m also happens to be very important for console manufacturers. Before the Xbox 360 launch, Microsoft declared that the first console to 10m would win the generation; the figure is used as a crucial indicator for momentum. An installed base of 10m is something that developers can work with, so this ties into third party support and long term health of a platform. Of course, 10m doesn't mean anything if it takes as long as Vita or Wii U to reach, hence why neither Sony or Nintendo made announcements for those systems. Switch reached 10m fast, so Nintendo announced that they crossed the magical mark.

True the 10m figure could be higher as there are points about it to be taken into question, valid points you have raised and also the 10m figure being given on the 10th in a tweet initially, were they estimating as they couldn't have same-day sell-through data? Second the corporate release cites the source for the figure as *Nintendo. Which is a strange thing to do, why cite yourself as the source? A NoA/NoJ related oddity?

Anyway at the end of the day the post stems back to a point that the VGC figures were "ridiculously low" which is what I took issue with. I do believe VGC is currently under tracking the Switch to some degree, as week ending 30th should be less than previous weeks, but it would be a gross exaggeration to say it was ridiculous, especially given the figure Nintendo released, however accurate that may or may not be.

And where the hell do you get from that Switch > PS Vita? You only used a freaking speculation from an analyst which seems extremely wrong. Besides that it still wouldn't have outsold PS Vita by that number. This thread is so much bullshit it's unbelievable...

How many vita are sold WW?

Except you just added some context to the previous posts, so everything makes sense again :)

Thats why i said minimum.

NoA should be close to if not exactly 3mil. Europe is bigger but lets say its between 1.5-2x more so 5mil That total right there is 13.8mil add RotW lets say 1.5mil? 15.3mil. Ok maybe up to 16.5mil max.

Its hard to tell without numbers but even if RotW+NoA+Europe is double Japan thats a total of 18mil and we kno its not close to this

Yeah I meant too low for a minimum, also I think the person who said 19m was joking.

14-16m seems about right for me, if anything Vita is overtracked, but not by 4.5m lol

There were analysts that said Switch won Black Friday, yet we know how wrong that was. Just wait for the official (shipped) numbers at the end of the month.
