Not really, but I hoped Bethesda would at least try to work around the framerate issue. The moment people see the Switch version has half the FPS they're gonna throw it in the dumpster.

It is still the only version of doom you can play on the train.

Many laptops can run Doom 2016: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Doom-2016-Notebook-and-Desktop-Benchmarks.166173.0.html

The Switch version will probably be similar to the "1280x720 Low Preset" (undocked in even lower resolution)

Graphically the game on Switch looks great, and as long as it's a stable 30fps then that's not a problem... shame they couldn't fit multiplayer on the cartridge too, but at least you still have the option to download it, I'd actually prefer if more games gave you the ability to install singleplayer and multiplayer separately, I know in this case it isn't by choice but by lack of space, but either way I like it, lol.

They could have fit it on the 32GB cart if they wanted to, but they went with a 16GB cart instead.

I have the PS4 version, so I don't see a reason to get this. Seems like a decent on the go Doom experience though.

This seems like an intelligent plan to port a high-end game.

1. From all of the reports including DF, this is a solid game that plays very well. I really doubt the avg gamer will notice or care about graphical differences considering the portable 720p screen. Docked maybe. Either way, if it wasn't a meh game that my son bought on XB1, I would likely consider.

2. Every game you buy now on any other console requires an install and sometimes patch. The fact that this is only required for multiplayer is a perfect trade-off to lower the cost on the cart. You can start playing the game immediately after inserting the cart (unlike any XB1/PS4 game) and while you play the multiplayer can download in background, if you want to even play it that way.

I sincerely hope that most big 3rd party games follow similar patterns. Game creation software is highly scalable as this game demonstrates. Can't wait to see what comes in 2018 as these companies tweak the engines a bit more after the initial work to support Switch.

I am probably going to pick this up. I never picked up last year's game because I had thought it would be another failed attempt to revive Doom, instead it worked and looked glorious. Multiplayer really never caught on but the single player was fun and those that played the entire thing stated it was worth the price of admission.

The biggest concern however is Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and finding time since I still have a fairly large back catalog of games to get through.

720p at 30fps, sounds fine with me

Moderated ~ CGI

I think if someone is buying this a year later on the Switch they're either doing it for the handheld experience or they don't care for the performance boost of the PS4/X1 versions which are also much cheaper.
