Some cultures are better than others.

Lol... she'll think twice before not doing his laundry.

Seriously though, this is cultural. I don't agree with it but it is what it is.

So here's the problem with racism and social media. What difference does it make where the parents came from? What point is there in saying they are from India? You could remove the word "India/Indian" from the article and suddenly it doesn't become as sensational. Aside from the borderline racist/prejudice comments in here, India has a lower domestic violence rate than the US. This has nothing to do with people from India so why is that a focal point? Honestly, racism wouldn't be as big of a deal as it is if the media wasn't constantly focusing on the color/race/religion of people. Saying "parents from India" serves no better purpose than "Florida mans parents". And you can see the ignorance in this very thread where some people are commenting things like, 'well this is expected from those people'. No. It's really not. There are more cases of domestic violence here in the US than there is in India per 100,000 people so that's a bullshit excuse. We need to stop extrapolating one bad apple to the whole bunch because the reality of the situation is that someone can be fucked up and not represent their culture and that is true almost every single time. Once we can stop looking at factors of race color or religion, racism itself will disappear. Instead of, 'it's what these people do', it will become 'what THAT person did' and I think that everyone world wide would be better off for it.

More on topic though - it's sad that this family felt that they had to meet disobedience with abuse. I feel sorry for the family and my condolences go out to the wife affected.

I agree with you somewhat but isnt it a little bit far to say its racist to disclose their origin? Or that saying India is known for violence is racist? It's india - they are known for being less progressive. Id also question how well India is tracked for domestic abuse. I mean, you start off by saying its racist to talk about this being a problem in India, then go on to say " Well it's not that bad cause USA".

Im not saying youre wrong just wondering what you think.

People should really try to understand the culture/religion of the person they're marrying into and how much their spouse's family follows the culture before getting married.

As an Indian.... this type of stuff is way too frequent in the behavior of Indians residing in India. However... I've never seen behavior like this from Indian Canadians or Indian Americans. This kinda stuff makes me ashamed of my own country and ethnicity.

Just like how I'm ashamed to be Caucasian thanks to the neo-Nazis, KKK, and the Trump administration.

Being either ashamed OR proud of something you have absolutely no control over and are assigned completely at random (by either nature or "god" depending on your beliefs) is one of the most simple minded concepts I've ever heard of. I can't even wrap my head about it. Some put WAY too much emphasis on identity politics and pigeon holing entire groups, maybe try looking at people as individuals..

Indians in the US are the richest/highest earning group in America that have among the lowest crime rate of any group, and the smartest group of kids in general (highest scoring grades) in the US. The CEOs of Google, Microsoft, and PepsiCo. are Indian American, so these people achieve at the highest levels.

I'd say he US could use a little more of that culture.

One doofus having domestic problems with his wife is overblowing the situation just a tad. This is the double standard, when a idiot white person does something it's a one-off/isolated thing, but when someone of a minority group does something stupid it's somehow now a "cultural" issue.

The woman is Indian from freaking India. I'd say she knows the culture.

30% of women in America in general report being an abusive relationship. That's tens of millions of women, but yeah lets single this one incident out.

Here's a sobering stat:

http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/entry/domestic-violence-statistics_n_5959776

The number of American troops killed in Afghanistan and Iraq between 2001 and 2012 was 6,488. The number of American women who were murdered by current or ex male partners during that time was 11,766.

I agree.

My parents are local and won't help beat up my girlfriend. Clearly something is wrong with our culture.
