Fair to point out the 3DS was not doing well at all at $250, as a handheld. Just because you can take the Switch outside doesn't mean it was an easy sell for Nintendo.



Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Love how all of Nintendo's successes are easy for people to explain away. If victory in the handheld space is so easy, why doesn't some other company get the number one handheld? I've asked this before, and heard "Other companies aren't interested," as though they hadn't tried and failed multiple times and handheld profits are in lesser currency than consoles.

^^^ Thank you. Add to the fact that the only traditionally huge Japanese games are Mario Kart and Splatoon this year.

Yes! We already see it happening  a little bit with the Switch replacing the Vita in PS4/Vita Muiltiplatform

I can see the Switch having a couple of 4 or 5 Million years, depending on what the Pokémon game ends up being like.

Put that hand in hand with Dragon Quest XI/ Builders 2, X number of "Mario" games, Animal Crossing and a bunch of mid-tier games like Tales of, SMT, Xenoblade, Fire Emblem, Kirby, Yoshi and Metroid?

It's gonna be a bloodbath.

I would not be at all surprised if JPN had the "EU Effect" on Switch, a la PS4.

They could be the nation that truly matters.

Switch is doing very well, but it is not really a 1:1 comparison when all things are taken into account. Aside from Zelda, Switch has been getting a lot of heavy hitting exclusives, with more on the way. PS4 was drug down by most popular Japanese games coming to PS3 for the first 2+ years.

I am not saying that PS4 would have sold Switch numbers, the mobile factor is something PS4 just can't match. I do think PS4 could have hit the ground running a bit quicker if major franchises had jumped to PS4 only from the start.

All in all both devices are selling very well, and showing that gaming 1st machines are still an important sector in Japan.



Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter.
