Too soon. High quality VR needs to be 8K+ @ 120fps with visuals on par or better then current non VR games. Switch in 2020 will be around PS4 power in handheld mode.

I do agree that Nintendo will eventually make VR games, to great success as well, but it will be towards the end of the 2020's when PS4/XBO level graphics are easily achievable at 4K+ @ 120fps in the $300 - $400 price range. I think Nintendo can get away with slightly lower graphics and IQ than the rest, but it won't happen for a while.

Wow people  are expecting  a gen 10 Nintendo  console  in less then 3 years? Omg.

Thats horrible.

Toward the end of the 2020's is not three years away. It is actually 10+ years from now.

2020 is way too optimistic. You'll need to wait at least until close to 2030 (if not longer) when mobile technology will probably be strong, compact and cheap enough before you can even start to think about VR as a mass market concept and not just a device for tech enthusiasts, research simulations and the porn industry. In any case, I think Nintendo knew that VR was a mass market dead end for the foreseeable future but gave journalists lip-service about researching it on the off-chance that it took off. Now that it's not happening, I doubt Nintendo will touch it anytime soon (or ever).

If Nintendo can get inside out tracking to work in 3 years for a small price then sure. Otherwise it's just another glorified 360 3D viewer. Motion control is only half the battle.

The current 720p screen might be a bit low, but 1080p is already good enough for stylized games. So with a revision that adds a camera for inside out tracking next to a 1080p screen would be VR ready. You might not get any better visuals than mario galaxy or any other wii game, yet those should have no problem running on Switch in VR.

It all depends on ease of use, (no extra wires, simple headset) price and high quality tracking whether it can really catch on. All things that psvr lacks. (and still sells and provides a lot of fun already) The headset add-on shouldn't cost more than a controller yet with everything contained in a switch revision that shouldn't be a problem. Reliable tracking without external sensors is the real obstacle.

It would if it released 2 years ago. Also, why would you buy a VR headset that you can't watch porn on? Kinda defeats the purpose.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Ew, gross. Metroid Prime 4 on VR would be a game with crappy graphics like all VR games outside of marketing/baked shoots. lol

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

I jumped all aboard the VR train, bought psvr day one, then awhile later I realised it's all a big gimmick and becomes a pain in the arse, after a few weeks. Rush of blood was brilliant though for like 5 hours. Nah no need for Nintendo to try VR anytime soon. It goes against everything they stand for it local multiplayer, social games.

I still think VR is just a resurging fad. Current VR is still only slightly better than the 90ies incarnation (I will give it that the graphics are better now).

VR does not need 8K or 16K or whatever resolution to be good. It needs natural feeling controlls (primarily for movement) wider FOV and non bulky equipment

This seems like an unnessarily high benchmark. Everyonce I know who has tried VR in its current form has been very impressed. Just like motion controls Its all about accessibility and experience, that pushes mainstream adoption. Technical perfection will come with later iterations. Seeing pixels isnt why people aren't buying into VR and hasnt stopped them from being blown away by novel experiences.

Switch's current graphical standards

at 120fps/1440p  for single screen VR (further away from your eyes) will  be enough for a mainstream breakthrough if it has the right experiences like Metroid VR, Mario Kart VR, Pokemon and of course fun/engaging custom made games ala Wii Sports.

The problem with VR right now from my view point as a major user of the format is the lack of resolution, and high enough frame rates. Current VR works well for simple games, and light asset core titles. Where problems arrise is in the draw distance on many titles. Racing games, and FPS titles are incredible on VR with motion controls, but the problem I have had with all three major heasets is the lack of draw distance. I have 20/15 vision, and even I find it hard to clearly make things out in the distance, others that have played with the headsets with more average eye sight have said this was a massive issue for them. This is directly an issue of resolution, a 2MP image stretched out to 300+ inches just can not deliver a comfortable level of detail in anything but the most simple art styles.

I agree that the set-up and controls need to become simpler and more accurate, but I just don't see people wanting to stick around if the image quality is not pleasent. This is the biggest complaint I have had from the 100's of people that have spent any time with VR. Typically I get people saying, wow the that was really fun, but it is kind of like playing on an old TV, or people going how low/what is the resolution in these headsets? In my expereince image quality is going to be the first major hurdle.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.
