That acronym stands for International Game Database. Obviously it looks to be a IMDB but for games instead of movies. It looks still as if it is in early stages. But you can already vote for games and they have a TOP 100 list.

There used to be a website called Unikgamer. It ranked games in a similar fashion. I was nice to see how popular games were vs their metacritic scores. With vgchartz I'm always left wondering how many people truly enjoyed that high selling shovelware game, and how many people traded it in.

I still have to laugh about how Gamewise got like 100k followers day one on Facebook. Buying followers on ebay to look like a famous site? Awesome!

Yeah, if I want to look up games, I go to GameFAQs, MobyGames and the German OGDB (online game database).
They have been building their huge databases for years and I doubt that the new database of "8 Dudes in a Garage" will be ever as big.
