Played through the first mission in docked. Performance slightly choppy as to be expected, but man it looks beautiful. The lighting in particular just gives everything such a nice, soft feel. I can see why DF were talking it up so much.

The physics react really well too. I got into a big firefight and quickly jumped onto a mounted machine gun, and while gunning some guys down collapsed a couple houses and blew up a truck. You can also notice trees/plants falling in the background when you're spraying people from a distance.

Taking a short break before I switch to portable with headphones (it's midnight here), then I'll probably play for a couple more hours before the Xbox pre-show.

So I was having some problems in the next mission (just plain sucking) and didn't manage to finish it, but man, the game really shines on the handheld screen. Amazing how good it can look and run on a portable system.

The game itself is a bit more challenging and tactical than I thought, and offers a lot of freedom in playstyle which is great. You can interact with quite a bit of the environment and objects; I killed a soldier just throwing a crate at them, so imagine these characters would be great baseball pitchers.

I love Breath of the Wild but the game kinda triggers my OCD

No it doesn't. It might trigger some OCPD, which is similar but not the same. If you're strict about adhering to completionism or doing things a certain way to ensure nothing is missed, that's OCPD. ODC usually revolves around repeating behaviours, irrational responses, and a different kind of consistency. Unless you're, like, picking up and putting down bows 5 times before firing them once, you don't have OCD. If you're just driven to get 100%, that's OCPD.

Oh, interesting, had not heard of OCPD before, but the bolded part describes very well what I do.

Square Enix is making a nice discount for their games. Trials of Mana is getting a 20% off, and Final Fantasy library a 50% off. Also older Dragon Quests and minor franchises like SaGa and Oninaki are getting a nice price drop (33, 50 and even 60%)

I think I will buy FF IX, X and XII. I've actually played X less than a year ago but I want my cousin to play it too so I'll buy for her

Not sure if I will take Trials of Mana, really didn't like the demo

*nods* Then you've got OCPD. I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but I have a clinically diagnosed case of OCPD and I did a lot of research after the fact to differentiate between the two. A lot of people just lump it all in as OCD when that's a far more crippling, irrational, potentially damaging disorder than OCPD. They're very different things but have very similar names/acronyms so people lump 'em in together.

I have to say, looking back on the Mini Direct, I was a little disappointed when watching it, I gave it like a 5/10, but I honestly can't say the Mini Direct was that disheartening. I mean, by itself it was pretty mediocre, but it was only 8 minutes, was announced at like midnight, and just didn't feel like a big priority from Nintendo with their "partners" warning given out to fans as prior notice.

Like, I don't know, I honestly feel like the Mini Direct before, as well as the last actual full Direct, were way more offensive. Even if they showed more quality content, the context just left a sour taste in my mouth. The September Direct had a Wii remaster as it's big surprise event ... like bruh ... I love Xenoblade DE but c'mon now. And that last mini direct wasn't even a mini direct - it was as long as a normal direct, just the content sucked ass so Nintendo named it mini and called it a day.

Nothing in this mini, by comparison, makes me as salty. If anything, I actually sort of feel bad at just how much lowkey disrespect I've seen thrown at SMT. Like every Nintendo community has just been mentioning for the past few years Prime 4, Bayonetta 3, SMTV, Prime 4, Bayonetta 3, SMTV, where are Prime 4, Bayonetta 3 and SMTV, and then we get one of them and it's like, people admit they just never really cared. I get we are all waiting for the next Tokyo RPG Factory game .. but c'mon now.

A lot of people are just in it for the complaining. We even have a dedicated thread for that where too many people talk about a 2020 that is as bad or worse than a Wii U year.

When it comes down to Nintendo releases, it's almost as bad. New Horizons is huge so that gets it out of the way a little bit. But it's still been a kind of disappointing year so far, although there's still time to revert that.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

The weird thing is that, even though trying to explore every friggin' corner of an area can get tedious after hours of playing (even if the sense of discovery makes things interesting at first), the sense of satisfaction I get when I explore an area in its entirety makes me want to keep doing it.

Shin Megami Tensei just isn't as big of a franchise as the other ones. I've heard way more people talking about Prime and Bayonetta, and the sales figures indicate that more people would be looking for those.

Yeah I just got done with the first mission as well, and it really is a technical showpiece for the system. It also kinda reminds me of BOTW in the way that the amount of interactivity with the environment make fights play out in an unpredictable and dynamic way.

My only issue so far was that the default setting for the gyro aiming wasn't sensitive enough, but once I cranked it up to 60/100 it feels awesome. Always nice to see shooters on Switch support this feature.
