Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Every Indie should support the Switch

Yes, Please do so.

Around the Network

In all reality every game developer should strive to put their product on every possible platform. Tools make it easier than ever and remove a lot of the risk involved.

To be clear, every possible platform does allow skipping dead/dying platforms.

If I were any dev, I would plan for:
1. PS4 family
2. Xbox family
3. Switch
4. PC

I think it would be cool if they didn't, but I don't think it should be a requirement. They should do what seems best for them.

Right now is actually a great time for any and all indie games to be ported over due to both the Switch feel being ideal for smaller, yet still rich and creative, experiences and due to a decent lack in established titles. The system is easy to port to as evidenced from comments from developers who have already ported their titles. Later though as the market becomes more saturated, it may be easier for a phenomenal, smaller budget title to be overlooked.

Getting new legs on existing indie titles through porting or reinventing is brilliant for developers; creating a ground up experience that you are not sure will be a success at the time of launch is still going to be a gamble. If 3rd parties continue to skip the Switch with their biggest titles, however unlikely but possible, then this becomes a mute point and Switch will become the indie/Nintendo console that "is just so hot right now."

Every game that can run reasonably well on the Switch should be on the Switch.

Period.

It's a successful selling system, there's no reason for games to skip it.

Freaking straight ROM dumps of 20-year-old Neo Geo games are selling well on this system, there's money to be made here.

Just scroll through 200 Angry Birds clones, 150 Flappy Birds clones and 300 Candy Crush clones and MAYBE youll find a game that looks kinda good!

What if the indie developer hates Nintendo?

Yeah, I can't exactly picture the former heads of Argonaut opening an indie studio and ever working with Nintendo ever again.

Surely in terms of the platform easiest to bring games on would be that which they are initially programmed on and where the absolute most tools for distribution are available? Also in terms of install base while the figure is flawed it's hard to contest how many PC's are out there :)

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

Nintendo won't advertise your game on their social media if you don't release at the same time as other consoles so some are quite resentful of that fact.

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

The Switch is getting loads of indies, both new and old. Seeing Nintendo's treatment towards indies (along with their success on the eshop) shows the great opportunities developers have.

At this point, I don't see how any indie dev could skip the Switch. The eshop is more restricted than other stores, making it a great environment.

every indie should support every platform possible.

Of course. Not saying they should only release on the Switch.
