Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Year 1 - Week 52 - Global Switch Sales vs WiiU/XboxOne/3DS/PS4

To be quite honest even with the Nintendo Switch's supply constraints, it's quite impressive that it's still selling almost on par with PS4's weekly sales these past few weeks in the same time frame.

For now the PS4 seems to be it's only competition at least until 3DS's price drop.

This should hopefully be the Switch's lowest selling point for a while. After all, they announced shipment increases for June and the production increase to start kicking in during July

So far no hardware, but in Software Zelda is up, so hopefully Swicth is as well.

Switch sales have nosedived.

Xbox one sells nothing.

Oh, hardware is in. So Switch sales were going down while Zelda is up? This is strange. I thought if sales of the two decouple, it would be Zelda which falls behind.

Err, no, this is just 3rd of June so far, we have a lot more weeks until the increased production is kicking in.

Switch is looking to trail the PS4 by 1-1.5m units on a quite stable basis in the coming months of VGC numbers. The major difference between these two systems is that Sony had more units produced and therefore could better capitalize on the early demand.

PS4 was released right before the holiday season. Obviously, in that case companies are prepared for the spike in sales and produce more units. That spike are weeks 3 to 7, where Switch lost its lead by 1.7 million units and will play catch up until this holiday. Past week 40 we will see much clearer picture.

The increased production, yes. But Nintendo also announced shipment increases for June already. They probably built up a little stock for ARMS and Splatoon 2, and might be able to ship some of these if the production increase comes on time for Splatoon 2's release.

This is July and August. Nintendo said something about June too?

I thought the Switch was supposed to start selling like the XBO by now? Someone lied to me.

"Nintendo says that it continues to ship more Switch units each week. Additionally, in July and August, shipments will increase. The new Splatoon 2 bundle is included in that. Production will further increase starting in the fall."

This means thay have already started to ship more units, and will continue to do so throughout July until Splatoon 2 launch - after which the baseline should be higher (I guess around 180k-200k) troughout August and continue to rise into fall season.

Good. They need plenty for Splatoon's launch.
