Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Careful with those clingy joy-con straps

Already posted it here but I think this needs a proper thread. There were a lot of Switch issues up till launch: disconnections, scratches, faulty designs, etc. I think we can all assume that the dock scratch issue was mainly FUD (still extra padding on the dock would have been nice). The joy-con issues on the other hand are somewhat in a mixed area.

The syncing issue is described in detail by TechInsights, in which left and right joy-con feature different antenna designs. The right contains an actual antenna with a connector while the left antenna is just soldered directly onto the the motherboard. The different left joy-con design is prone to manufacturing problems, thus overall a worse design.

On another note, the last few pages of the joy-con thread this came up:

Back then I thought the notch used was made of metal, as abuse and misuse could wear down those little plastic notches...

Apparently the damage shown above came from a joy-con strap. There is a way to remove the strap if you messed up attaching them. Still the strap design is very clingy, it's something you notice in comparison to the console and grip itself.

So be careful not to attach those joy-cons wrong.
Scratch that, don't deal with those stupid straps and just play without protection, it's more fun

Let's spread some more FUD

And I thought it was just me who had problem with the straps.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Yeah, I've had no problems with screen-scratching or connectivity, but those straps do lock on pretty damn tight. You need the jaws of life to remove them at first. I've been reluctant to use them.

I chose to just buy a grip for the JoyCons. I honestly only used the strap so it was easier to hold.

It honestly blows my mind that anyone could possibly ever put the straps on the wrong way by mistake. Even without looking at the clear markings on the straps, the placement of the strings should make it clear enough. Why would that go at the top, ever?

The design of the straps is weird, even if you do it correctly they don't come off easily. It can be inserted in the wrong way and mess up your joy-cons. Definetly not designed for children use since even adults mess up, and clearly not idiot proof.

Huh, I'll need to be careful with the straps then. I still haven't even used the things, so I don't about this current issue.

No such thing as idiot proof, Idiots find ways to mess up.

I think I need to stop criticizing the Switch. I mean, now it's starting to feel like picking on the handicapped kid

Children. Children play video games. Children also do all kinds of weird shit just to try it out. Nintendo messed up here. They thought of children trying to eat a cartridge but never thought thye might try to put a wrist strap on wrong it seems.
