Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is Zelda Breath of the Wild overrated?

It is overrated. With the frame rate issues that game had, it should never have been given a ten. Most pro reviewers are going to realize that when they step back from having played the game. 9.7 is fine too even but give a technically flawed game that affect performance a perfect score takes away from the seriousness of objectivity.

Well to be fair, many reviewers have only a five-point-scale. Giving a 5/5 is OK in my book. A 10/10 is more discussion-worthy, but going lower than 9/10 is really hard to justify. We forget that review often have a less fine scale than Metacritic.

Haven't played it yet, so I can't say. But I came here to say that GTA 4 was not overrated. That game was a friggin' masterpiece and imho better than GTA 5.

Well deserved

I'm 5-6 hours in and right now I don't think I'd be giving it a 10/10. I'm also playing Horizon and ask myself: "What does Zelda actually so much better than Horizon to justify a 9 point gap in Metacritic?". Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying Zelda a lot, I just don't think it's the new holy grail of gaming so far.

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
1. Super Mario Odyssey

Personally, it's hard for me take Zelda games metacritic scores seriously. They all score very high, but I've never been able to get into any of them. Just not my cup of tea, probably because of the art direction.

So, I won't say it's necessarily overrated, but everyone should judge for themselves.

Doesn't every new Zelda game get viewed as overrated until the next one releases? Lol.

No, it's not. :p
It's one of the best games i've ever played, even with flaws.

And honestly, how far should Dark Souls have been downrated if it comes to technical issues?

P.S.: Personally i think GTA is absolutely boring. But i have no issues with the rating every GTA gets.

It's just another open world game with the key point of having Zelda in its name. But nothing new for those who play these kind of games often imo is overrated. 93 at best.

Zeruda cycle!

Also, I'm not sure whether it's overrated or not since I haven't played it and see for myself, but I've seem some small things here and there that would probably make me fall in love with the game, so I doubt it.

Honestly, I don't think there is a game out there that deserves more than a 95. Anything over that is overrated. Even my favorite game, Bloodborne, would only get a 95 rating from me.

Why?

Because I believe "perfect scores" should be left for "perfect games". None of this "10/10 means it's essential, not perfect" horseshit. A 9/10 would make it essential, too. 10/10 implies perfection.

Is Breath of the Wild a 98? No. Is it worth a 95? No.

Is it a solid 94? You betcha. Is it essential? Honestly, if you have a Wii U or Switch and don't have this game, I don't know what's wrong with you
