Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why are the gaming preferences of this community different from the general population?

Peoples love for games here is so different from what people actually buy. Why is this?

Just about everyone here does not like call of duty, fifa, madden, etc but these are the most popular franchises.

If i took a poll on here id say 45% are sony fans, 35% are Nintendo fans, 15% pc gamers, and 5% xbox gamers. When in reality its more like 50% sony, 30% microsoft, 10% pc, 10% nintendo.

I remember when 8th gen started everyone thought the wii u would crush xbox one and people thought xbox one would be a failure (its still ahead of the 360).

What makes us different than the general public? Is it enthusiasm? Age difference? Is it that people on the Internet favor some systems more than others?

because we think games are serious business

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

65 million 3DS's sold beg to disagree about that 10%. Xbox gamers truly are the smallest fanbase in the market by a long shot.

Coming from the guy that said the Switch will sell worse than the wiiU and then goes on to say the Switch will sell 15 million which is better than the wiiU...

We are talking about home consoles. There isnt an xbox handheld. Unless you want to include all phones that have Windows which microsoft easily beats nintendo in handhelds

Well there are 65 million 3DS owners who are Nintendo fans in some way or another. Wouldn't that skew the numbers?

There's way more Nintendo fans here than there in the actual market, that skews everything here, it makes it seem like Nintendo is close to Sony when it's not even close and certain IP get way more attention than they do relative to what actually sells in the market.

Game message boards usually lean towards the uh well "less athletic crowd", lets just put it that way, so franchises like Madden or FIFA or NBA while hugely important in the general market don't get talked about much here as there's likely not too many "jocks" here.

But all you said were fans. Those 65 million 3DS owners are still Nintendo fans in some way or another. And you never metioned home consoles and mobile phones are still not dedicated gaming hardware with full blown fully fledged and priced games.

He also has just clasified PC audience is 10% compared to Sony 50% as reality. So take what he says with a grain of salt. If he is talking core audience, again he would be wrong, but it would defeat his previous sentence of talking about Call of Duty, Madden, Fifa.
