Forums - Gaming Discussion - Absolutely no hype for splatoon 2

Um, Japan is already going crazy about this. There were reported lines closing by like 10 am because they were so full. And really, as long as this game does what Splatoon 1 did in Japan, its worth it for Nintendo. The Japanese love barely better versions and rebuying things; the entire Monster Hunter, Yokai Watch, and Pokemon series are BUILT upon this concept.

That being said, if it includes a new story mode and there are enough new features with the improved online, I will rebuy.

Because it is basically Splatoon 1. They ported the Game/Engine and made new Maps / Gear.

Nintendo released Splatoon in Summer 2015 and had developed even more content after release till 2016. There is no way they could make a complete new game from scratch in just 1-1,5 years. Game development takes time.

Yep, basically the standard in any online shooter. At least Splatoon is not anual XD.

Well even Call Of Duty has a development time of 3 years (3 different developer are working on cod titles => Infinity Wards, Trech Arch and the guys from advanced warfare). So each individual title is 3 years in development. I doubt thats the case with splatoon^^

I know, but you can't deny all the games still look and play very similar, with more weapons and maps. It's not about development time, it's about how they play.

People are hyped, and nobody is complaining about graphics (well except you I guess).
If it seems like people arent hyped though maybe its just because its being overshadowed by the console itself, Zelda and Mario which are all much bigger deals still.
Splatoon is big but its no Zelda. On top of that its very popular in Japan, which makes it seem less popular than a franchise that is equally big but only preforms in the west.
If you head on over to Nintendo Japan's YT you will see its trailer has outperformed every other video since the Switch event for them.

I feel like nobody cares about Splatoon 2.... Because it looks EXACTLY like Splatoon 1. When I heard it wasn't a port I got sick to my stomach. Like I thought it was the same game from the trailer. How could there be that little effort into the visuals for a full blown sequel? It's basically new maps and new weapons. In other words it's a glorified update. Sure it's a little ways off but they won't be able to change the graphics that much. I don't know. Only Mario looked like a step up and even that wasn't a huge step up compared to a game like Mario Kart 8. Now I never expected a super powerful console from Nintendo even though when I was a kid they were cutting edge... But I did expect them to be able to compete with current gen. I mean this thing probably can't even handle ports of Xbox One games which is abysmal. Don't defend them this is bad. I really really hope they are coming out with a new home console.

Switch is basically a handheld Wii U, so the graphics cant get much better. And no Mario wasn't a step up, it's just an entirely new game with new environments. Thats why you're tricked into thinking it's a step up, but it doesn't look better than 3D World.

Mario was definitely a step up on a tech level. The game has much larger environments and more detailed worlds than 3D World did.

As for Splatoon, we'll have to wait and see what content they add before determining if it's a worth seqeul or not.

Yeah because even 3 years isnt THAT long. Zelda, Final Fantasy and co are in development for 6+ years and that has a reason^^

Take a look at this:

As one can see, the reveal trailer for Splatoon 1 didn't even reach 800,000 views until months after its premiere.

Splatoon 2 has already passed the million mark so I do believe Splatoon 2 is off to a good start.

Mario definitely looks better than 3d world. Lighting effects, animations and character models are all better looking. It's not like a huge leap but it is obviously better looking.

I'm pumped for it, and I didn't buy the first because I thought it was so poorly put together. One of my most anticipated switch games without a doubt.

The original splatoon was a big hit. So the sequel should be super hyped. Don't compare the level of hype a brand new game gets to a follow up to a successful game. It is meaningless.
