Forums - Gaming Discussion - Rumour: FIFA Switch is based off the PS3/360 versions

Are you going to pretend like you have been on these boards, following the posts that have been made over the past 8 months?

Some posters, like myself, have been saying Switch was a hand held since before day one. Hell, my prediction was that because it was announced for a March release, it would be a hand held. And that prediction predates the cartridge or mobile chip powering the console rumor. Some of us were fighting with other Nintendo fans about it being nothing but a glorified hand held with TV out. I get that you think all Nintendo fans consider the console to be a home console, but that is untrue. Please, do not attempt to discredit these people because we have earned our day to gloat about how correct we are, too.

"The Nintendo Switch is an upcoming video game console developed by Nintendo, and the company's seventh major home console"

"Despite these characteristics, Nintendo markets the Switch primarily as a home console rather than as a portable"

http://www.polygon.com/2016/10/20/13347910/nintendo-switch-home-gaming-system

“Nintendo Switch is a home gaming system first and foremost,” the company told Polygon when asked if the system was going to impact the sale of the 3DS portable systems

I have been on these boards. But whether I have or not is irrelevant. It doesn't matter what posts have been made. It doesn't matter what you've been saying. It doesn't matter what your predictions were. It doesn't matter if you think you've "earned your day to gloat".

It is being a classified as a home console. Nintendo is calling it a home console. It is a home console. Whether you "predicted" that it would be a handheld means nothing because that's not what it is. Your prediction was wrong. So, we're not going to go by what you were saying 8 months ago. We're going to go by what is objectively factual. If I "predict" that the Scorpio will do 8K resolution, then it comes out and maxes at 4K; I don't get to continue calling it an 8K console just because of my "prediction" and then make current assessments based on that wrong prediction. It's an issue of soundness and validity.

You know those mods where they take the guts out of a 360 and put it in a laptop casing so that it's "portable", but then put an HDMI out to the TV if you want? That's what the Switch is. But, it's "official" instead of a "mod". But at the end of the day, you wouldn't call that "portable 360" a "handheld".

The Switch is Nintendo's next home console. They even said that it won't eat into 3DS sales because it's not competing in the handheld market. So let's nip the narrative in the bud before it even starts. The Switch has a high price point and is underpowered. It's 3rd party support is severely lacking. And the games that have been displayed look "ok" at best. Long story short, it's not looking good. And considering Nintendo home consoles have been going downhill since they entered the market (outside of the Wii outlier, NES > SNES > N64 > GC > Wii U > Switch????), I don't want to see any mentality of "it's not a home console so if it doesn't do good, it doesn't matter" or that Nintendo will make some "true" console to compete with the PS4 and XBOne down the line (or PS5 and Xbox Two).

I don't care if this is a long response or that it can be interpreted as "antagonistic". We need to stick to the facts here and prevent a narrative before it starts.

Your post, as long and silly as it is, proves my point. Hopefully you understand exactly what I am talking about.

Thank you for that.

Well its EA.Their shitty practices is not surprising.

EA isn't the problem, its the specs.

Relative to the hardware Fifa should look fine on the Switch. But I would be annoyed if its missing significant features from the X1/PS4.

Nintendo has NEVER needed EA on handhelds. EA has had virtually no presence on Nintendo handhelds and when they have they gave no effort.

Is that what we're going to be doing now? Pretend it's not a home console? Then when it bombs because it's not keeping up with modern consoles (neither in power or the games department), you can fall back and say "hey, it's a handheld! It's not competing with PS4 and XBOne"???

The Switch is Nintendo wanting a presence in home console arena but focusing on being a portable device. This is because 3DS did fine and Nintendo Wii U flopped (worst selling Nintendo home console ever). Nintendo simply doesn't want to compete with X1 and PS4 directly, too expensive. Forget the console war BS, this is the reality.

Even if NIntendo claims is a home console first, that's PR bullshit. The console was designed for portability and that has affected price and capabilities more than anything.

People are going to see it the way they want to see it. I did not argue the dude because he is allowed to see the console any way he wants. He wants to believe it is a home console, he should be allowed to do that. However, people like me that have been calling the console a hand held are not going away. Fire cannot melt steel beams... just because Nintendo SAYS it is a home console, some of us are not fooled. Not one bit.

My point in this reply is to say you should not debate this guy because he will feel right and entitled because he is, as I see it, being dooped by a marketing ploy. He will feel he is correct and so will the people that stand on the other side. The real problem is that he has not come into contact with, or seen any of these inner fights before which leads me to believe he is not on the Nintendo boards enough to know that this position predates the actual October showing of the console. It leads me to believe this person is not a Nintendo fan. He seems to think this is a NEW move by Nintendo fans to damage control the current negative publicity when in fact, we have been saying this since before there was any negative press about the console.

Thank you for that.

Ahhh yes, I "proved" your point. I guess Nintento, the makers of the console, are wrong then. Glad to know you know more about the product than the people who made it. I'll be sure to defer to you, instead of Nintendo, about all things Switch. Because people on the Nintendo boards have been debating for a while, that means whatever opinions they had are still valid in the face of Nintendo telling you what their product is. But that's just a "marketing ploy", I guess.

Hey, I said that Halo is an FPS, but some others were "debating" it was a third person shooter because sometimes you can get a turret. Bungie sure fooled me with their clever marketing! I mean, they said it was a first person shooter, but people on Microsoft boards were debating for months that it was a TPS when they saw footage of turret use, so that means they still get to call it a TPS despite all the details of the game being known now. Those people weren't fooled one bit. I was the fool because when a company, with nothing to gain by lying about it or deceiving people with "ploys", said "this is what our product is" and I believed them. Shame on me, I guess
