Forums - Gaming Discussion - The best thing about PC gaming is not 200 fps or 4k or mods or bc but

There's a lot of great things about PC gaming, so there's bound to be something for almost everyone. But yeah, it does seem pretty rare to have long loading times in a game on PC.

  fast and easy installs.

TBH it won't be as fast as PS4 since it starts installing crucial parts of the game so you are already playing it in 2 minutes while it does the rest in background. If it's a digital download, you can even start playing before the download finishes.

If you mean downloads, then it's true. PSN at least is quite crappy with speeds when it gets just a bit of load from users.

It has better have that functionality with those horrible speeds. It's 2016, Sony, fix the download speed already!

if you use SSD i asume

It seems that a stock PS4 uses a 5400 RPM HDD, which are pretty rare on PC. 7200 RPM is more common on PC, and it's faster. And in cases where a game doesn't install much data to the HDD anyway, there obviously won't be much benefit from the HDD. Not sure if there's a lot of such games though. For past generations, the loading time advantage has been much greater though, because console games either couldn't use a HDD or a lot of them simply didn't even though they could.

Nah, I just put an SSD into my PS4 and it basically halved the loading times in FFXV. While it would be a lot quicker on PC I think PC 's other advantages outweigh this one.

well the the use of HDD on consoles is slightly diffrent from PC and the result is very effective and significant, especially games that use disc. Most of the games on consoles streamed half from the disc to HDD and to the CPU, unlike PC that need to be instaled.  That's why it doesnt need to have a high speed HDD. They also use a diffrent kind of compresion tech. The reason ofcourse to cut the price as cheap as posible and also the durability. The same thing also use in most of laptop 2.5 sata HDD

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. Are you saying half a game is loaded from the HDD and the other half from the disc? And how does installing (like on PC) make it slower? As for compression, it has two sides. On the other hand, it's faster to read from where it's stored, but on the other hand it must be decompressed, which takes CPU time. And most laptops aren't gaming laptops, so you can pretty much ignore them, so that laptop remark isn't very useful. Most gaming PCs are desktops anyway, I think.

Its everything everyone said here.

But for me, its the free games!

Pocky Lover Boy!

Well, some mods can remove things that do similar thing. Such as removing the 20 logo's when starting up a game, or removing some short video that plays during all reloads or something.

But yea I would agree. People love open world games. It gives a game more immersion. Seeing a black screen and waiting 30 seconds when you enter a new area disrupts that. If you have a good pc loading times are super quick and it makes it feel more smooth.

Heck, my pc isn't the greatest but it's still loads fast enough that I can never read the "tips" that loading screens show. On consoles, you can usually read the tips like 5 times during each loading.

it doesn't matter if people playing games on laptop or desktop, as long as the PC able to run the games. And yes the principal of console is almost the same with Laptop, which durability, cheap result, and portability.

And yes PS4 have abilty to directly stream (actually all console that use HDD) from the Disc to the cpu without instaled , altho most of the games are instaled half of the code and decompresed and run on both (HDD and Disc drive), u can check on Wikipedia.

And also i am not saying consoles is faster then PC or even match the speed of PC , i am saying PC dont have fast loading as well, it depend on how the configuration of the HDD, and yes even 7200 RPM is not that much diffrent from 5200 rpm, it's louder, hotter and consules more power for consoles. The diffrent is hard to tell.

And also what the important thing is not the rpm spedd but the badnwidth , why PS4 and Xbox One is slow and useless if it using SSD because both still using SATA 2 connection (except for the Pro ). And most PC are using SATA 3 for the new mobo

I mean.... faster digital sure, assuming you have fast internet steam servers are a lot better than PSN.

I don't own a PS4, I'm not comparing.

I'm just saying it's fast, Steam, Uplay, Origin, all the servers are fast. And so is my internet connection.
