Forums - Gaming Discussion - To Pixel or not to Pixel, that is the question.

Just watched some hands-on videos, did it really have to be this ugly? Even the default wallpaper is outdated and an eye sore.

I like the idea of making the fingerprint scanner act as a track-pad, I always wanted my iPhone TouchID to recognize left/right swipe gestures, it boggled my mind how no smartphone manufacturer (until today) thought about it. Props for that, but overall, nothing special. The best thing about Siri is the fact that it's always listening, no need to touch my phone or be near it for it to work, this doesn't seem to be the case with Google assistant.

It is of course, always a personal preference thing so if you do think that on-time software updates is enough to justify the high price tag, then in your case, it makes sense. To me though, iphones offer more than just software updates to make it worth the price tag. They always have the best CPU and GPU on the market at the time of their release, their app store is excellent and has apps that the Play Store doesn't and most importantly, Apple supports their iphones for 3-4 years. And there are a few other things here and there.

I agree, on-time software updates is important to me but there are many other equally important considerations. It's just that I really don't want to buy a smartphone and get left out within a year or less (case in point, my galaxy s3)

A nexus/pixel phone on the other hand doesn't offer things like that for it to make sense for me however. If you go on their website for example, it says that "2 years of OS updates." That means that the Pixel phones won't get supported as much as iphones will. And then you look at a nexus phone that is just about at the end of its life which is the Nexus 6, the update for it got delayed by a month. So really, its not even on time even in that 2 year time range. That + all the stuff its missing that other flagships have makes it hard for me to justify a Nexus. If touchwiz was as bad as it once was, I could kinda see it but it isn't anymore. And galaxy devices has had stuff that Nexus phones are just now getting (S4 had multi-window and S6 had VR and S7 has Vulkan) so it makes it easy for me to wait.

Touchwiz is beautiful now, I tried out a S7 and I was impressed by its modern looks, not to mention, that lots of the software gimmicks that infested previous galaxies seem to be gone now. I am not sure if Samsung is doing a better job at pushing updates, I hope they are, they seem to be listening to consumers which is always a good thing.

Also the fact that my car has wireless charging so I don't have to fiddle around with the cable and since it rains in canada as frequently as a whore gets wet makes the S7's features worth it for me. The thing that made the Nexus phones worth it was that its price tag was less than its flagship competitors so justifying its lack of features made sense but this time, for me, it doesn't. If software updates was this important to me that it doesn't matter what features other flagships have, I would rather get an iphone cause at least it would be supported for longer.

After watching some hands-on videos with the PIXELs, I could definitely see where you are coming from. Nothing really special for the price.

Xiaomi Mi5s has the same specs, might as well get it.
But I'll probably wait for one more year before buying a new phone, mine is only one year old.

It looks exactly like an iPhone. And it's also just as expensive! xP

Oh, I also read that it's not vanilla Android anymore but some special version of it. Dunno what exactly that's supposed to mean, just read it on some webpage. Anyway, I don't like it one bit. It falls behind the competition, it's missing some very neat features (OIS, Micro SD, water-resistance and whatnot) and it's just too damn expensive.

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

It's on my radar but I need more info, and the prices seem kinda steep... Loving the camera, the design is just as bland as every other phone in the world, I don't really care all that much though since I don't buy phones or computers or consoles for their design, and I'm quite surprised that people are so caught up in design.
Even a phone that looked like ass would be viable for me if it was a great product.

Honestly there nothing wrong with the phone, it competes quite well with others flagships but the price is murder. Was looking to pay between 1-1.1k here but us closer to 1.3k

I really like it. If Sony and/or Nintendo don't come out with a Phone/Handheld before my Xperia X craps out, I will be switching to this. I prefer my hardware and OS are designed and developed by the same house, that is why I love PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, and Apple products. I have reluctantly stuck with Sony through the Android disaster when I had to have a phone, due to my pure hatered the way Apple treats games, but I am ready to move on.

I really hope this sells well and marks an end to Samsungs coat tail riding on Googles OS. It would be great to see the Google phone, with the Google OS, lead the Android marketspace in the next few years. Then maybe the rest of these Yayhoos will actually start to inovate the mobile space and bring some options instead of the me too nature the business has taken for the last 5+ years.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Nice. I'm overdue for an upgrade and tired of bloat. Assuming this turns out well it might be my next phone.

I only care about the battery. How is it compared to other android phones? Almost all high end phones offer more or less the same experience.

the only advantage I see with this one is that it gets the new Android versions day 1 - in pretty much all other aspects there are several better phones out there
