Forums - Sales Discussion - June 2016 NPD Results

I want you guys to take a look at this:

It's the data that just released on VG Chartz about USA sales for Mirror's Edge Catalyst opening week...and it's pretty inaccurate.

According to NPD, Mirror's Edge Catalyst only sold 99K units IN THE MONTH OF JUNE. So the performance is underwhelming even when you look at the already underwhelming VG Chartz estimates.

Most of times Niche games are WAY overtracked on VGChartz, is happen a lot of times... according to VGC #FE has 80k pre orders before the release, can you tell us how much off is this?

I bet it's closer to the week number than the ltd number lol. ie. 13k

Mh, I was expecting a lighter drop for Uncharted 4. Anyway, not a bad number for its second month.
Mirrors Edge: Catalyst debut, even considering it counts just retail sales, is...ouch.

none interesed in the halo 5 vs uncharted 4 wars here :(
343i made the statements about halo 5 having the highest monthly active userbase since halo 3 and june was the biggest month since launch.

so i would really like to know hoch much the game sold in h1 2016 at retail. most of the backlog sales are digital these days, but the big AAA games sell still decent later into it's lifetime. IPs like Minecraft, GTA V, CoD are still huge months after launch (GTA V and Minecraft even years, tough)

Sounds like typical PR spin (just like the 400m in revenue headline), as it just had a free weekend....

And then there's the supposed 16.5m players, which doesn't add up with the sales data.

biggest active monthly userbase since launch.
nothing to turn down about that. games like LoL, Dota2 and CS:GO all massure theire success based on that numbers. Because only active players spend continously money on the game. and if you want to increase the money spend on the game, you have to either increase the active palyerbase, or the amount spend per active user. both is fine, too ;)

unit sales are really one of the least important benchmark for this kind of games today.
also the 400m revenue headline was no spin either. Halo 5 grossed that amount of money (digital sell through + retail sell in) in the frist week or whatever the timeframe was. they just included $100 bucks for every bundle sold in to have a bigger number they could brag about.

Yes, but that is misleading since it due to the free weekend is what I'm saying.

400m revenue was shipped, not sold-through and included consoles, games, accesories, microtransactions, etc.

So let's talk about the two new Wii U releases by Nintendo this month.

Let's use....30K as our benchmark.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE is above that 30K benchmark, but not significantly (aka. it's not >100K or anything like that). So it's in the 30-80K range in its first month...that sort of area.

Tepid sales in the overall market, but can you really expect anything better from a niche JRPG releasing on a dead console at retail? At least it didn't COMPLETELY bomb retail-wise. Digital share should also be high for this kind of title.

But speaking of disasters.......

Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games COULDN'T EVEN HIT that 30K benchmark. Not even 25K. Quite disastrous in all honesty.

Another bomb? Good ol' beloved Mighty No. 9. WEAK retail start. Couldn't even hit the ~40K territory.

Hmmm... quite a disappointing result for those Uncharted fans (not me), looks like I predicted correctly about the legs. It's to be expected though; heavily-marketed AAA sequels don't usually have particularly strong legs.

Globally in the USA?

I just left it alone.....even though Aqua clearly stated thatt UC was more of a global game than an US game Mazzy somehow still came to the conclusion that his prediction was correct. Oh well no big deal I know he is not a fan of UC4. I wonder how R&C is doing it was holding strong for a nice amount of time!

I'm talking about legs in terms of percentage MoM. It doesn't really make sense that UC4 would have weaker legs in US, and then have stronger legs in RotW.

Agreed, considering the time invested into Mirror's Edge: Catalyst. 100K for that result is horrible.

But an even weaker result for Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE....man....I heard about that game back in early 2013. It's been in development for a WHILE and Nintendo had likely put a lot of development resources into it. A shame to see that....not really go anywhere.
