Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Miyamoto: Breath of the Wild Needs to sell 2 million.

2 million is absolute certainty. Maybe he meant 2 million on wii u?

Breath of the Wild will sell 2 mil in its sleep.

While that really should be easy for BOTW, this is kinda new territory for Nintendo. They've always made cheaper games. Or am I wrong? Not saying that cheap=bad!! We all know the quality Nintendo games have ;)

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

it will easily do that within a few months (max). but 300 people working on it for 5 years and it just needs 2 million to be successful?

So production budget is roughly above $120 million.

Production budget is less than 60 million.

I doubt that 300 worked constantly over the course of five years on it, or even that at any given time 300 worked on it. Some people will have only worked for a few months on it for a specific task. I assume a core team of 50-100 and additional workers especially on the finish line.

10 years greatest game event!

bets: [peak year] [+], [1], [2], [3], [4]

2 mil seems to me a really low bar to set for a zelda game on a just launched nintendo console. Hmm. Must be what they need to break even. Should be able get that easily.

yeah i suppose you are right. but right now monolith soft has 100 people working on it. add to that what ever Nintendo has on the game and its certainly more than 50-100.

i would have thought it would have taken more sales to be honest. this is new territory for nintendo, it got delayed, a lot. and they are working on new technology for it.

Pfff, is that all it needs?
Twilight Princess was able to reach that mark in 8 weeks on just the Wii version alone.
Skyward Sword did it in 5.
Now granted those games came out during the holidays, this will be in March if they're planning on it being an NX launch title (unless NX gets delayed to the holiday season of next year, and knowing Nintendo it wouldn't surprise if they did) but it'll EASILY sell 3 million, without even trying!

Since Nintendo doesn't get all of the full retail price you can't just  multiply by $60 to work out the production cost ,also there was no indication of whether marketing costs where included.
