I agree. I actually expect all of the big 3 will leave the console market and focus on gaming services.

First off, that picture of link is disturbing... secondly, were you around when Sega did that? The Dreamcast had to be marked down to $49.99... and it STILL didn't sell lol. People jump ship when they find out the company is abandoning them.

Why disturbing? Is it making you question your sexuality?

And I dunno, I remember stores giving Dreamcasts like candy back in 2002 or so. Even my uncle (someone who always favored Nintendo over Sega) went and grab a Dreamcast, which was how I initially play Shenmue!

"They'll leave eventually", like how people said this during the first generation Xbox?

I dunno what people said in the first generation, im just calling it how I see it.

And you can't see nothing to learn of those who were wrong before you?

Tim and The Princes...

As others have said, they'll leave console HW, eventually. Especially if the Scorpio is a bust. Of course, I already predict them pushing Scorpio more as a Windows 10 VR Box than an Xbox. We can already see that MS is pumping less money into the Xbox division. Hardly anymore advertising and timed exclusive deals, something they were buying up, like a chubby kid buys candy, last gen.

Now, will their games still carry the Xbox name? More than likely, but that hardly constitutes it being the same brand as it was.

Nintendo should've just signed a deal with Microsoft in the early 2000s to use Windows CE or whatever in Nintendo console's. Would've saved them from having to compete in an over crowded market.

People are just asking this because of the Microsoft Windows - Xbox sharing a exclusivity, which not everyone liked and they feel like they are switching to Windows, but like Phill mentioned if they where planning this there would have simply been no Scorpio coming

They're eventually going to leave.

It's just not going to be in the traditional way.

The Xbox is going to be absorbed into Windows 10 and/or Windows 11. It's already happening with all the games working on both platforms. Microsofts actions speak louder than Phil Spencers words on this.

There will continue to be Xboxes, but I think in the future we'll see more skus, ranging from a $100 more gaming focused Roku competitor to a high end $500 gaming machine. It's pretty clear that their goal with UWP is to have all Windows store software at least technically compatible with all their hardware. Though I don't think we'll ever see them drop the Xbox name, because there's already too much brand recognition. There would be nothing to gain from such a move.

Ultimately, I don't think their plans will have any real effect on xbox console gamers, but it'll throw a wrench into these ridiculous console wars.

They might turn Xbox into a line of gaming PCs.

Here's the real question, do you think they're going to make a TV media device?

That's what Xbox really is, its their successful way into the living room. Five years from now I anticipate a newer Xbox One.

Remember that the Xbox was a reaction to Ken Kutaragis plan to take over the living room with the Playstation platform and eventually disrupt Microsoft's PC OS business. Sony doesn't have this as their console strategy anymore so Microsoft doesn't have to "take over the living room" anymore. Smartphones and tablets are a much bigger threat to Microsoft right now, so that's where they are going to put all their effort.

I think they might use the Xbox to make windows 10 media PCs to compete against smart TVs.
